Re: Deeply Discounted Exterior Accessories

For those of you who would like to swap out your chrome OEM rear license plate brow for a painted one, I've found you can do it without any tools at all just using your fingers! Check out this thread;

http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread...459#post646459

And even better still, there is no neeed to order the more expensive painted "Altitude Edition" brow w/back up camera option if you have one, because all the rear brows are the same. It's the mounting brackets that are different. You can use the one you have already mounted on the liftgate! You will leave the black plactic rear brow mounting bracket you have in place, which includes the backup camera/harness and liftgate open button w/harness and just "pop in" a painted brow and liftgate glass botton!

So the cheaper rear brow without back up camera option can be used regardless if you have that feature or not;

1ZV27AXRAA MSRP $207.00 Brilliant Black
1ZV27DX8AA MSRP $214.00 Gloss Black

Re: Deeply Discounted Exterior Accessories

I already ordered the entire assembly in brilliant black with rear camera cut-out for $181.70 (includes shipping) from mopar online parts last week. Processing takes 5-7 days and today was day 7. I'll see what they say tomorrow. I need to replace the entire piece of rear chrome because my chrome piece is coming off at the base to where it attaches.

update: email I received this morning:
The handle you have ordered is currently on back order at this time. We
apologize for this delay. We currently show an ETA of receiving this item
from Mopar on 7-3-12. We will then ship out this item that same day. You
will receive an email showing the tracking information for your order.
Thank You for your order!

update: Part shipped tonight (6/27/2012) - delivery by UPS ground, expected delivery Monday (July 2) at the latest. I'm going to the dealer on Saturday and will have them look at the trim that's loose and see if Jeep will cover it under warranty. Hopefully this part reaches me by Friday but it looks like timing might not work out. Looking forward to getting it. Hoping it's the right part.

update: Just got the part (7/2/2012) and it's the correct Brilliant Black color Liftgate piece from the Altitude. I held it up over the chrome on the back of my Jeep. Looks good!!!!!!

Sounds like your OEM brow has either a broken mounting tab or one of the double stick 3M mounting tabs has come loose. You can still "pop off" the rear chrome brow you have now, as long as the black plastic mounting bracket underneath is still intact. Just carefully remove it and replace it w/the painted one off the assembly you ordered. The chrome liftgate button pulls right off as well, just replace the w/the painted one from your ordered assembly & your done.

If you plan on removing the entire OEM chrome brow assembly with back up camera, liftgate button & harness' you have now, you will have to remove it from the interior of the liftgate, meaning the interior liftgate trim will have to be removed to access the brow bracket mounting points.

The black plastic behind the chrome where it attaches on both sides (next to the tail lights) is not tight against the paint underneath. This causes the chrome to stick out past the tail lights on both sides. How do I fix that?

This is a fit and finish issue and I've only owned the vehicle for 8 months so it should be covered and replaced at no cost to me under warranty, but I'd prefer to avoid the dealer and do it myself, if possible.
