This happened on mine. There should be a plastic cover piece to put over it.

Re: Delivery Checklist

Will try to pump some life back in this thread, as I think what I have to post below most suitably belongs here. I had posted in the 2014 tracking thread that I had received my White 2014.5 (built on July 27th) on Aug. 31. A few folks on that thread asked me to post the delivery checklist that I had mentioned I was going to use when I picked up the vehicle. So here goes, - with the disclaimer that I'm sure not everything is here, and that I owe finding the majority of the items to this thread and the JG site in general. If you're looking for more detail on any item, the search tool is your friend. Point form to try to keep the somewhat long list a short as I can -

Before Driving - Exterior:
  1. Paint consistency (especially on the doors) in bright sunlight if posssibe. Also dust specs under the paint.
  2. Check the spacing between the rear liftgate and the vehicle body. Also check the spacing of the taillight sections in the body and the liftgate in this area. The items mentioned should line up and have equal spacing on the left and right side.
  3. Check all body panels alignment, especially focus that chrome trim pieces line up on door areas. If the hood is out of alignment with the body, their is an adjustable stop on the right and left side under the hood that may be an easy fix for you.
  4. Check under the vehicle in the shock areas for any leaking (not common, but has happened to a few apparently).
  5. Check exterior of side windows on bottom and rear rubber seals not being folded under itself, cut, or any kind of distortion
  6. Front and back lights for interior condensation (some dealers claim this is normal, - not sure on that one)
  7. Check the fender flares for alignment or bulging
  8. Look in all 4 wheel-wells for loose or missing plastic rivets.
  9. Check all visible grounds under the hood, and on the battery posts under the passenger seat for being tight. Not sure if this is still a problem, but was in some early builds.
  10. Check the cover over the rear lift gate handle for being bowed out slightly. STAR case no. for this is S1323000043 if you have the issue.
  11. CHeck that the lower cowling under the front and rear bumpers are secure. There was mention of the odd early model having them loose, and I think one actually fell of with driving.
  12. Check inside and outside alignment (as best you can) of the sunroof or Pana roof.
  13. Check rear window in liftgate for being set in straight.
  14. Check to see if a double press of the Hatch button on the key FOB opens the rear hatch.

Before Driving - Interior:
  1. Did not have this one on my list, but mine has this issue on the interior cover for the Pana roof. For about the last 1/4 of the travel when the cover is closing, it make a fairly noticeable vibrating sound.
  2. Check inside the centre armrest for manual park release having a red nylon strap hanging out? Apparently someone just had a cover missing? You'll have to search for more detail on this one.
  3. If you have an iPhone 5 connected via Bluetooth, ensure that it reconnects after the vehicle is turned off, exit and renter the vehicle and start back up.
  4. Check to see that the tire pressure on all 4 tires is equal and correct on the EVIC, and that they agree firly closely with a manual tire gauge.
  5. Check the reading of the outside temperature reading. Lots of mention of it being far off at various times and I think this is still a known issue. Willx seems to have the knowledge on this one.
  6. Operation of Air Conditioning when remote started. Still an issue I believe, but according to Willx, it sounds like they will be addressing this one fairly soon.

While Driving:
  1. Check for any wheel balance like vibration or steering wheel shimmy at Hiway speeds.
  2. CHeck that the steering wheel is stright when rolling dow the Hiway.
  3. Leisten for a rattle that may come from above the gas pedal area. Possibly caused by the lower of two heater core tubes running through the Firewall bibrating against the HVAC box. Mr. search will have to give you more detail on this one.
  4. Listen for any door seal air leaks at Hiway speeds. Might want to hire an assistant for this one .

Stuff I found ion mine when I took delivery:

Exterior -
  • Found one very small, but black dirt mark on the passenger side rear panel (right on a corner point). Would not polish away, but very small, and I will probably live with it.
  • Some very small fine scratches on the chrome piiece on the rear bumper. Very minor hard to even find, - will live with it. One "grain of rice" sized bump under the paint on the roof of the vehicle (noticed when I was putting the cross rails on after I got it home. Very out of every day site - not sure if I want them to mess with it.
  • #3 under Exterior above, - Adjustable number is all the way out on the drivers side hood adjustment. Dealer to look for a bigger fitment issue here.
  • #5 Exterior, - Vertical rubber seal on rear passenger door is quite distorted. Dealer to replace.
  • #10 Exterior, - cover is distorted. Dealer said they will address.
  • #1 under Interior above, - Dealer said they will look into this one.
  • RA4 software version on my unit was at 13.31.2

General Comments:

I did not get into all the things to check on the radios and uConnect, or uConnect Access (don't have that anyway here in Canada), as Willx has all the info you could hope for on his threads about it.
And, - oh, ACC with Stop Kicks A$$! Very sorry for those of you that did not get it, I would be as upset as you are for sure if I had missed it. This is my first experience with ACC in general, and I can't ever imagine not having it on future vehicles. Love it!

Sorry for the length, but hope it's helpful. Please do everyone else on this forum a favour, and keep adding to this thread for the people awaiting the arrival of their new Grand Cherokee's!

Re: Delivery Checklist

Now that I mention this it will probably bug the hell out of you if notice it.
On the chrome trim, not only check for lining up with the next trim but on each piece check to see if its attached uniformly across each door/window. Mine was " pressed in" tightly on each door corner while in the middle of the door it was "warped out" or not pressed in as tightly as the ends. Drove me nuts. I still scan all,the jgc I see and more than half of the ones I see have this uneven look.

Re: Delivery Checklist

I almost bought one today with $4500 off labor day incentives but it had a paint defect where I didn't want my new car getting resprayed as there was no way else to fix it. It had misaligned panels and even the rear tailgate handle was incorrectly installed with a gap in areas. The hood was too close to fender on passenger side.
Did not exactly inspire confidence to dropping over $40k.
It was an August build and they should not be having these kind of issues this late in production.

What was the dealers response? Did they seem concerned about the issues or did they seem as if the next customer might not catch it?

Re: Delivery Checklist

Check a couple of things I have noticed on mine.
1.Check the cowl panel under the wipers. Should be smooth and should be flush at both front fenders.
2. Check interior panels that they are fastened correctly.Especially seat trim.
3. Alignment of the tail pipes. Drives me nuts every time I walk up behind my Jeep.
4. If you have a smart phone, pair it and make sure it functions as it should.
5. Have them give you a copy of your vehicles PDI sheet. My vehicle did not have it done before delivery.

Enjoy your new Jeep!

They were surprised I would notice that kind of stuff, I guess most people don't bother.

I'm definitely following this thread. My dealer is going to hate my 3 hour checkout!

Thanks....and keep adding as you think of more things.
