Check out the group buy if possible

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I have a trade and am 1,500 mi away from the TX one. Last time I inquired about it, the guy was a PITA about giving me an estimate because my Tahoe was "too new." He told me to take it to Texas Direct to get a quote and they'll go off of that. Well I don't freakin live in Texas. And the Tahoe is like a super common vehicle in TX so I didn't see what was so hard about getting a value for it... Basically, I wasn't impressed with the group buy customer service.

I know it depreciates the most in year one, but come on! Is this WK2 that big a POS that it loses 33% of it's total value in twelve months!

I know several people on here dumped theirs one year in. Did you take a hit that bad?
Try CarMax, they tend to get close to reasonable numbers and they are fast on the trans.

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I used the Texas group buy as a negotiating tool for the three dealers around me in Central Texas. Two offered to match, and I went with the one that gave me the best trade at the time.

This would be the first time I've ever traded in a vehicle that was only a year old. I usually drive my vehicles 5-6years. I guess that's why I'm so shocked at the low offers right now. I think I'm talking myself into driving this Jeep a few more years.

I didn't mention that I got my dealer to give me the MOPAR Max Care package for 5yrs/100K/$0 deductible after they botched the repair on my half axles twice. That makes it a little easier to put up with the frequent dealer trips.

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I just traded in a 2014 limited with 26,000 miles for a 2015 overland. The 2014 was an early build and although it seemed to have all the bugs worked out, I really wanted the LED headlights. I actually paid $37,500 for the 2014 and was given $33,250 on trade. No haggle price on the base 4x4 overland was $.42,500. The complete deal was made by email and I was in and out of the dealer in an hour. My 2014 was listed at $36,000 on their website and to my surprise sold in 3 days. My depreciation was $4,250 over 18 months and I felt good with that number. I always seem to come out better negotiating by email. You just have to be aware that if your vehicle isn't what you say it is than the deal will be adjusted after inspection.

There is an old rule of thumb in real estate. You never want to be the nicest house on the block.

I think lower trims will trade better than higher trims.

I also got $32k back on a limited I paid $37,600 for with 27k miles and 18mo old.

The problem is with that is, you take a huge hit on sales tax.

When you trade you only pay tax on the difference.

So you are automatically down another 6% out of pocket on private sale.
Private sale is good for older vehicles.
