Angry Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I have a 2014 Summit 4x4 V6. I'm tired of taking it into the shop (8 times now in one year) and I'm really missing my Ram. I recently took it to two dealers in my area and I was only offered $35K and $37K in trade-in value. KBB and NADA say $39-$40K for "very good" which it is. The sticker was $52,190. I know it depreciates the most in year one, but come on! Is this WK2 that big a POS that it loses 33% of it's total value in twelve months!

I know several people on here dumped theirs one year in. Did you take a hit that bad?

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

When people go to trade they always refer to the msrp. When they buy they brag about how much below msrp they actually paid. The dealer know this as do used car buyers.

Think about what you would be willing to pay for a used vehicle. The dealer who takes the trade does have to make a profit.

Have you considered lemon laws instead of trading?

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I'm aware of how the trade in is priced. I know they need to make money, but we're talking wholesale prices at $35K. I paid $46K for my Jeep which made it 5% below invoice. No incentives in May of 2014. At the time, I felt that was a very good price, but we're talking $11K less than that. A dealership in town has the same vehicle for sale with many more miles than mine (15K vs 25K) for $43K. Given that, and the KBB values I thought $39-40K was fair. I guess I was wrong.

I've looked into Lemon Law, and it's very specific in Texas. It has to be in the shop more than 30 days (which it has) and you haven't been provided a rental car (I have been). Or, it has to have been the same issue 4 times (it has it's 3rd set of half axles, plus a few visits in between for suspension issues) AND it needs to still be a problem (which it's not).

I'm just frustrated that I have to take a huge hit if I want out of this Jeep that has been a pain in my butt since the first week I owned it. I'm just as mad at myself for purchasing it as I am at FCA for making it.

Try private sale. I'm sure you would do better.

You can always negotiate the trade-in value, they're going to lowball you just like everyone lowballs them when buying a car. You will definitely make more money in a private sale, but you might lose tax credit if your state credits you for sales tax when buying a new car.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

I lost multiple attempts at getting either a buyback or monetary compensation from Chrysler, so I got a lawyer and tried a "Pre-Suit" case...lost that too, so I went car shopping a couple months ago.

Got a deal at a new Mercedes Benz dealership next town over from me, received an awesome fleet discount on an ordered 2015 C300 Sport 4Matic, and to my surprise I was offered between $37,000 - $38,000 for my 2014 V6 Overland 4x4 with no options (paid $43,900 for it new), about 14,000 miles on it, it's in excellent condition...and I even got the dealership to put that offer on the P&S too!

So in anticipation of a June delivery of my new Benz, I made an appointment at the dealership last week to receive my free detail (owed to me from the last crappy radiator install I received earlier in the year), and a free synthetic oil change (compliments of Chrysler)...just today!

My Jeep looks just like new!

You weren't afraid the dealer would screw up the oil change requiring it to stay in the shop long after your delivery date?

Would you pay that? They're not expecting to get that. They know the buyer will bring that price down. Just like they expect someone trading in to ask for more than the first offer. If someone pays or takes the first offer it's their problem and a score for the dealership. Find the truck you want and negotiate a price. Then negotiate your trade in.

Just traded my 14 overland in for an srt I got 32700 from koons, had 24k miles and in good condition they had told me 34k unseen and they took off money because debadged, one rim had a scratch and some other dent.

Also remember u save on sales tax when u trade in so that's like added $ also

Re: Did anyone actually get decent money on a 1yr old trade?

Sorry to go off topic a little but... OP, you only paid $46k for your 2014 summit??? At that time they should have been going close to MSRP. Currently I can't find a $52,900 Summit for under $48,900 and they should be discounted more being that the refresh is right around the corner... Wtf!!!
