Question Did I buy a lemon?

Purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee with 55k miles on it.

Check engine light comes on within first week of purchase. It was cleared nothing fixed just cleared. Brought it back and it was cleared again....3rd time check engine light comes on it is in the shop for 2 weeks with the following problems. (12 days exact)

Once again this is within purchasing it late may.

Error Code P0455 P0456

-Replace filler neck ISEM seal and Gasket

See image below.

Is this common for a Jeep with 50k miles. Did I buy a lemon. Is it possible a dealership will clear out codes throw it on the lot and let it sell and then the errors start popping up its customer problem.

I'm not hear to bad mouth a dealership but I can promise you I will not step foot in Palmer Dodge again.

filler neck is not a problem I have heard of as common but anything can happen. you didn't have to pay for that $800 though right since you just bought it?

Then why did you make this statement, mentioning the dealer by name?

Re: Did I buy a lemon?

I agree with bill_de....so the dealer fixes a problem under their warranty and you rake them over the coals? obviously nobody likes to buy a used vehicle and have stuff go wrong out of the gate but it is used and if stuff happens that is the best time as that's when you either have a short warranty to cover you or the dealer is more generous with a fresh sale...are missing something in the situation?

I was never given a rental / loaner car. Was out of a car for 2 weeks. If I didn't buy the extended warranty the repairs would of come out of my pocket.

Jeep as a company does not give loaners even if the car was brand new and it broke down you dont get a loaner unless you purchased the maxcare plan. If you want a standard loaner you need to buy a different more premium brand of vehicle. Some jeep dealers may choose to do a loaner program on their own but most dont. Buying a used car from a dealer they should give you something like a 30 day warranty, if you only had it a week they should cover the repair. After that 30 days or whatever then you are on your own unless you buy some type of extended service contract. Remember you are buying a used car and problems can happen and it doesnt come with a bunch of free entitlements, you get that 30 days or whatever the short time period is and thats it unless the original warranty like powertrain has anything left on it.

Re: Did I buy a lemon?

I agree with silvermax04 but for sure it would have been, in my mind, a nice gesture for them given the immediate problem to hook you up with a loaner but most CDJR dealers just don't have them to give...just a really unfortunate problem that is not an immediate in/out fix...regarding the "if I hadn't purchased the extended.." That's really a non-argument....having a warranty you paid for actually pay for itself with a repair is a good thing in my book...

If you have the Mopar MaxCare Extended Service Plan, a rental/loaner is part of the provisions and you should have had it available to you. If you bought a third party extended "warranty", you might not have that provision and there's no obligation on the part of the dealer to provide one. Most dealers these days don't have "loaners" like they did many years ago.

Even if you have maxcare warranty, the dealer still needs to have loaner cars or you get nothing. That's my least favorite thing about this brand. Get with the times and offer loaners... It keeps people happy and also sells current customers on upgrading as they get to experience new models and features. Not sure what is so difficult about this.

MaxCare does not provide for loaners, that's a dealer courtesy decision only. MaxCare provides $35/day rental car coverage that does cover a rolling ashtray 100% in some areas like mine but not everywhere.

Loaner fleets are expensive to have they can certainly offer them but we will pay for them through higher vehicle cost and service, nothing in life is free. Some manufactures do offer loaners as a given for their brand but it's not some standard in the industry with Jeeps being the only one that doesn't offer them, many manufactures do not offer them and loaners are becoming fewer not more because of cost. Some dealers of manufacturers who don't offer loaners may choose to have loaners on their own which is nice but that is an exception as most do not. If loaners are critical, shop for a specific dealer that happens to offer them, buy maxcare or buy a different brand that has them. Just factor the importance in when you are shopping it shouldn't be a shock when it comes time for service.
