Thumbs up Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

I hit 1000 miles yesterday and as always I do my first oil change at 1000 miles on any new vehicle. And as a matter of fact I looked at the oil filter element and yes I did see 2 to 5 mm filings in the pleats of the filter. At least 20 small filings. But the filter did what its supposed to do. Filter them out!!! So a 1000 mile oil change may not be necessary.

As Far as the Oil change:

This was by far the Easiest Oil change I have ever done. The "canister" oil filter is by far the best design I have seen so far. Having a filter on top the engine make for the cleanest and easiest experience.

What I dont like is the need for 6 qts of oil. My wifes 09 Liberty uses only 5 qts and with the "5 qt Jugs" it makes it easy.

I get a free Oil change from the dealer at 3000 miles. After that I will Probably go Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and do oil chages every 5000 miles.

If you think 6qts is bad, my G8 requires 8qts!!

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

Try 14 quarts in my old F250, lol.

And my wife's little 2.5 liter inline 6 needs 7 quarts.

Thanks for the info on the oil change though, I will be giving this a try soon enough.

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

Congrats, the canister design sounds convenient.

The 5.7 takes 8 quarts.

Good thing O'Reilly Auto Parts has a sale right now: Mobil 1 synthetic for $5

I said: "16 quarts, please " but I might go back and get more, considering the price!

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

The amount of oil 6 qts doesnt bother me. But the last couple of news cars I have seen all require 5 qts (09 Liberty/ 10 Camaro)

Which makes it very convenient with the 5 quart Jug of oil and environmentally friendly (I use that term loosely)

One more quart wont break me

You will be pleasantly surprised how easy, hardest part getting under the jeep. I put it in Off Road 2 Lift to get underneath and drained.

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

Random question here Frank, but do you happen to have the TT IV pkg? I'm asking because I'm curious about the design/location of the 'heavy duty oil cooler', and I'd think it would be on top of (or near) the oil filter.

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

Advanced auto always has "oil change specials" that have 5 qts and a filter for a discounted price. My civic only takes 4 qts. Too bad the jeep and Honda call for different grades, that would work out perfect with the jeep needing 6 qts.

According to the owners manual it shouldn't take but "7". My Charger only takes 7 also with the hemi.

Re: Did my 1st Oil Change on 3.6L today

There's much debate about that.. if you let it drain for more than 10 minutes, it'll fill up with 7.5 quarts, plus. I keep the other half quart for toping off the reservoir after draining the catch can.
