Re: Disabling 2014 Overland alarm... while locked

Unfortunately , I was able to resist the finance guy's sales pitches on every dumb add on they try to sell....from paint sealant to interior protectant, except I bit on the "upgraded" alarm system....This turns out to be nothing more than activating the already installed shock sensor and some bogus insurance rider. It sounded like so much more when he was selling....uh...I mean telling us about it.
As for the Harleys.....they are in the parking lot of the local saloon.
Ive been told that the deslers have the shock sensor pre installed...for protection on the lot and as a money maker in the close of the sale. All they have to do for their five hundred plus dollars is activate it with a few keystrokes

Re: Disabling 2014 Overland alarm... while locked

I just tried locking all the doors with the manual lock buttons. I happened to lock a rear door last. No alarm light is flashing

No problem ... Allstate will buy me a new one.

Heck, since that's who pays my pension, I guess they bought this one too.

Does it mean that I am nuts that I was going to do this same thing tonight? I at least resisted doing it in my work parking lot in front of my coworkers

On a serious note... thanks Jacko!

Re: Disabling 2014 Overland alarm... while locked

I am not sure about the '14, but the '11-'13's have an ultrasonic sensor as part of the standard alarm (mine is an Export model). This is disabled by locking and unlocking 5 times. You can test the ultrasonic, but arming the car with a window down and stick you hand in it after 60 sec. It will go off.
I think the only way to lock the car without the alarm is to use the key in the door lock, old school style.

Search for topic"Security Alarm Question" for MY 2011-13. Summary, press remote lock four times and it disables ultrasonic movement detector in car until next unlock. Not sure if it works for MY14.

Thanks Ross! I'll give it a whirl when I get home this eve. Assume the visual cue is the red light on the dash, but the real test is to lock and arm with a window down and then wave your hand inside.

This is GOOD STUFF! Sometimes I park where there may be A LOT of noise, and it would be nice to be able to disable the alarm temporarily! Thanks!

Nothing!!! I used my foot on the hitch to really get it rocking. Nothing!!! I yanked on all the door handles. Nothing!!! There is NO motion sensor in the '14 JGC from the factory. The only way to set it off is to break into the vehicle. Rocking, touching, loud noises, yanking the handles will not set it off. If anyone cares to bring their unmuffled Harley over to my garage, we'll try that too. In fact, I have a few friends with said Harley's whom I'm sure would be happy to test this out the next time they're over. If you have an aftermarket alarm system that has a motion sensor, then you must live up the street from me, because I hear your alarm going off in the middle of the night all the time.
Living in the Milwaukee area ... I will be able to thoroughly test the HD/straightpipe issue in approximately 2 weeks ...

As far as the OP and camping etiquette, 100% with ya. As others mentioned, I disabled the horn honk and the chime on liftgate open/close. You can't get quieter that that. On the other hand .. you can sit on the keyfob just right to set off the panic alarm (yes, I was "that guy")
