DIY Oil changes and documentations?

For people who change their own oil like myself, how are you documenting it?

Just in case you need a warranty service/claim related to your engine and the dealer can say you never got it changed from a certified Jeep dealer?

Is just writing it in the booklet good enough? I don't have receipts to my M1 5/20 oil and oil filter anymore.

Re: DIY Oil changes and documentations?

Good question. All I've been doing for years is keep my maintenance records on a spreadsheet, and I put an "X" on the appropriate cells as I perform the associated tasks.

I keep copies of receipts for major items and stuff that has warranties, but not for the small stuff like oil and filters. Even if I kept those, there would be no correlation between my purchase and the vehicle.

So I continue to use the spreadsheet.

Re: DIY Oil changes and documentations?

I asked the same question to the guy at the dealership when I took delivery of the vehicle. He suggested that I put all the receipts in a folder/file and usually that should do the job of showing that you did the basic maintenance.

Like Yadkin said, I have a spreadsheet printed out and stuck to the inside of the cabinet door in my garage. Any work I do on the vehicle, I write the date and mileage on it in addition to saving the receipt.

Re: DIY Oil changes and documentations?

I keep Google document spreadsheets for my vehicles. I document everything from maintenance to repairs and modifications.

Re: DIY Oil changes and documentations?

I always document all service then back it up with receipts. I am very sceptical that I would ever have any issues with warranty work due to myself performing oil changes because if they took the motor apart it would be clean without any sludge build up
