Do custom orders normally take this long?

What is the average wait of a custom order Jeep GC? I know there are a variety of factors but I am asking about in general.

I placed my order on 5/26/2015 and havent even entered the D1 phase. I called jeep and they said "We have all the parts and its just getting ready to enter production". AKA it hasnt entered production.

2015 GC Overland
Maximum Steel
Light frost/beige interior
Advanced Tech
Harmon/Kardon Sound System

The vehicle isnt some outrageous color nor combination. The only thing I could think is that the upgraded sound system would cause the delay, but a month after ordering and not even entering the production phase seems steep.

Shortest that's been reported that I recall is 4 weeks to the day. Typical is about 6 weeks, sometimes longer for folks in "out of the way places" or if some form of extra inspection occurs. There's no guarantee for delivery time for a special order and the time is affected by both factory production as well as transportation.

Whats confusing is that their are people who ordered near my date or after it that are further along in the process. Im getting this information from the jeep build thread that Milous set up.

I did the purchase from the group buy in Houston. They're the largest dealer in Texas so I cant imagine location would have anything to do with it.

I deleted the other users names as a courtesy. But you can see mine below compared with others

^^^ It should have been entered as a "SOLD" order with your name on it. Check your order sheet for priority 1 sold order. You should have a VON and by now a VIN assigned.

If it is or they now change it to a sold order, it should hit actual production any day now and within 24-48 built and if no inspection issues on its way.

It's frustrating waiting ... but should be done within the next 2 weeks most probably.

Mine is going to take about 5 to 6 weeks total, but mine is just a Limited with a couple options.

I would not be surprised if the HK audio is holding it back waiting for parts on backorder. I vaguely remember someone possibly on this forum or another that was mentioning his special order with the HK audio was taking forever.

I thought D1 indicated they had the parts?

I have a call in to my dealership. Waiting for the call back. I remember him showing me the code when we built the vehicle that said 99 and that it was going to change to 1 once the order was placed. I'll have to check that actually happened.

The vehicle already has its VIN. It's had it for almost two weeks now. I'm beginning to think the HK is the culprit, but I'm basing that off of zero information. I need to dig further.

The HK system better be worth it!

HK shouldn't be the holdup.

Did you get my PM?

But so far, I don't see anything abnormal. Lead time is currently 7-9 weeks.

It's not on a piece of paper. It's in a database. :p

Also, I must add, 7-9 weeks is the *average*.

I've seen people get their Jeeps in 4 weeks on this site.

I've also seen people get theirs in 12-14.

So much emphasis is placed on D1 status on here. I don't know why, it doesn't exist until "E". Once it reaches E status, then start scrambling and wondering where it is, why it's there, why it's been there so long, and when the heck is it gonna come off the truck?! :p

I've seen people's Jeeps stay in F (Paint) status for a month!!!!

I just took a look at my order sheet from the dealership and it says priority status 99! Im hoping he fixed it and I just have an old copy. Either way, im calling the dealership to get to the bottom of it. If it was left as 99 it might have tacked on extra weeks onto this build

Does it say Priority Status 99- Sold Order?

I just got off the phone with Jeep Customer Care. They confirmed that it was Build Priority 1. They said "They are gathering all the parts for it now but it hasnt begun production yet".

I dont know what makes my jeep unique for taking so long when others who placed orders later than I did already have scheduled delivery dates

I am asking an opinion question and would genuinely love your responses. Here is where i stand with my jeep:

As of today, 7/1/15, the vehicle hasnt even entered D1 status. Meaning even if it started up today and took an exact 4 weeks till delivery, I wouldnt get my vehicle till August. So lets assume a mid august delivery. My current vehicle gets transferred by the middle of next week (7/8/15). So i will be without a vehicle for almost a full month. This makes my work life extremely difficult.

After speaking with my dealership, we have figured out the following options:

1) Ride out the wait, figure out alternate modes of transportation, get the vehicle whenever it is delivered.

2) Choose an Overland off of their lot. Will not have the HK stereo like I ordered on mine but the rest should be similar (maybe an ext. color change).

3) Upgrade to a Summit on their lot. This would give me the HK stereo plus the benefits of the Summit. It would be an extra 2k plus I would have to have a dark interior. I chose the Light frost interior on my build jeep. Summits only come in the darker interiors. So i would be getting all of the tech that I wanted but the color schemes would have to change.

I know this has to do with personal tastes but I would love to hear your opinion. I am aware that there are threads comparing the Overland to the Summit. That isnt the questions that I am asking. What would you do in this situation?

It depends on how badly you want EXACTLY what you ordered. I order all of my vehicles because the dealers never have them configured exactly the way I want them, and as expensive as all vehicles are nowadays, it has to be just right. I wouldn't want to be thinking a month from now, "If I had waited, I'd be taking delivery of my custom built Jeep". Besides, on the window sticker it reads, "This vehicles was specially built for..."

The jeep that I ordered wasnt anything too custom:

Overland 4x2
V6
Maximum Steel
Light Frost Interior
Adv. Tech
HK System

The Summit would have all those features plus more. The catch is the interior color. Having never owned a dark color interior vehicle before, this one would be new to me. The plus side is, dark interiors dont show dirt and age as much as the lighter ones do.

I'd base my decision on how long I planned to keep it. If you're in for the long-haul (5+ yrs) then I'd wait and get exactly what you want. The commuting/work issue stinks but you could probably rent a car for a month for $500-1,000 which isn't that big of a deal long-term. If you figure you'll trade it in for something else in the next 2 yrs, then maybe you go for option 2 or 3. Out of those, I'd probably lean towards 3 just for the HK stereo (although I personally don't really care for the Summit styling). The radio is about the only thing I don't love in my 2014.

If you really can't wait for the build, go with option 2 and purchase ( or have the dealer throw in ) the stereo. I believe it cost less then the extra 2k on option 3 ?
And if you do go with opt - 2, I would still consider a dark interior...

I was one of the lucky ones, I ordered in March and took delivery in April.

Im only going to have this car for 3 years. I have a high turnover rate with vehicles...except I mainly just keep getting newer jeeps.

I have a work trip in houston in a couple weeks. While im down there I am going to visit my dealership and see what they have in stock and map out the numbers. If they have a white Summit with a black or possibly brown interior, might just pull the trigger (if the numbers work out).

That's exactly who I ordered my jeep from. Mark Gusman has been incredible to work with. I'm going to talk with him and discuss different options

#36 ·
Update: Ive learned that my vehicle isnt going into production for atleast a week. Which would put the delivery date to mid august at best. Going to speak with the dealership in a week about possibly just buying a Summit off the lot.

If youre planning on ordering an overland, avoid the beige interior and more importantly the upgraded HK stereo. Apparently those are the two items combined that created the longest delays
