Do You Detail?

I was just wondering if anyone ever takes their Jeep in to have it professionally detailed?

Re: Detailing

Not me. I'd gladly pay someone to save the wear and tear on my back, neck and shoulders but none of the detailers around here would do the job to my satisfaction.

Re: Detailing

I've taken mine to one shop in town. I normally do all my own work, but didn't get off my butt until after the rain set in and I'm without a garage. Also, I've never used OptiCoat and figured I'd experiment on the wife's car instead of mine.

I did a heck of a lot of research before I picked this shop and I very clearly paid a premium for it, but the work was beautiful.

You know ... a month before it got hit by a tree. LOL. :-(

Re: Detailing

I took mine to a detailer a few days after delivery to polish it and protect the paint with Zaino products, it was a package deal with Ceramic window tint..
since then I started reading more about detailing until it became an obsession I do everything myself unless it's very hot and humid outside, I take it to the same detailer for a wash because I don't have a garage..

Re: Detailing

not me! I do it all myself. I have a local place that sells professional detail products, and buy most of my supplies there. I may not do everything the same day but it all gets done, by me, and only by me. I just wouldn't be happy with anything else. the only thing is my neighbors think I'm a little nuts when the temp. is in the 30's and I'm out there washing or waxing or cleaning the jeep. I just like to drive a clean vehicle. I cringe when I see someone open their door and it looks and smells like a garbage dump inside!

I park my car for the winter. I've had years where I've given it its final wash before putting it away and there's been ice on the car and driveway before I finished.

LOL... gotta love Wisconsin.

Re: Detailing

I do it myself, but have also taken it (prior 2011 Limited) to detail dept. at car wash place. I should have taken it to a professional detailing shop as I think the people they assign to the task at the local car wash are recruited off the street.

Re: Detailing

I haven't had my JGC to the detailer, but wouldn't hesitate should I decide it's needed. Unlike many folks, I just don't have the time to do that kind of thing myself between work my equestrian and woodworking activities and family obligations. I also don't enjoy it. The detailer I used to prepare my previous vehicle for sale is great and very reasonably priced, too.

Re: Detailing

I have an appointment to have it done the week after turkey day; too cold around here now to do it. Want a good coat on it before the salt spreaders begin.

Re: Detailing

I've never paid anyone else to detail any car of mine - no one would do as good a job nor care as much about my vehicle as I. Over many years of trial and error I've found the best products and methods and I stick to those. I enjoy doing it, not only for the results but for the exercise benefits as well. It takes me 12-15 hours to completely detail a vehicle, spread over two or more days. I turn down detailing jobs all the time from people who see my cars and ask where I take them; not interested in doing it for money. (At least not right now - might do it part time when I retire, but it's probably a small customer base that would allow me to keep their vehicle for 2-4 days just to detail it.)

Re: Detailing

Gotta love the "don't have the time" excuses.
It's like the rest of us have all the free time in the world.
If you really wanted to do it you'd make time for it.

I've worked on all my cars mechanically and keep them and everything else I own as clean as possible. The Jeep stays as clean as life will allow for that time. I hope the day never comes where I don't have the ability or the willingness to do it myself.

OP ...read up on the best products and techniques to use if you're willing. In the end no one will treat your car like you treat it.
