I have no clue what the law is. But even if you are right, I still wouldn't want to give that dealership the sale. In the end it all worked out for the best, if I had purchased that pickup, I wouldn't be in a GC today, which is hella better, though I do love Ford trucks.

Re: Do you HATE HATE HATE the car buying experience (bad dealerships)? Read this...

I was looking to buy my first car at 22...a new car at that. I was a cash buyer. The Pontiac salesman (the dealership also sold Jeeps) sat me down in his little office and asked me to write a $250 check to show the manager I was serious. I did it. Then waited and waited and waited for the salesman to return. He came back with a price that was still way too high and I said no thank you, I am leaving and want my check back. The check was still with the manager.....the salesman tried to repair the situation with more B.S., I still didn't get my check back for at least 15 minutes. I was so upset I vowed to NEVER EVER buy a vehicle from that dealership. Even though that dealership is still there and has made some changes, they have missed out of 7 new vehicle purchases....well over $200K in sales.

Since then, I go in 100% armed with information and have no loyalty to any dealership that sells me a vehicles. Sure, had my first experience been positive It would probably have been a long relationship with that dealership like the guy wrote in the first post. But the dealership ruined such a possibility. So now, I don't give a darn about who I buy from......oh well. It is based on the lowest price and convenience. I do give the dealership that I bought the last one from the first crack at the next one if it was a good buying experience though. :-)

Funny article about how Tesla sells vehicles:

Tesla takes on America's car dealers - May. 20, 2013

"In North Carolina, though, dealers are pushing to pass a law that would make it illegal for Tesla to sell cars online there. A representative for the North Carolina auto dealers group did not return a call seeking comment on that legislation."

Really???? Gotta love those car dealers! LOL[COLOR="Silver"]

Thats understandable, and with cars, how I conduct myself. I walk in with a folder full of info, and make it clear from the start that I will buy a car from whomever gives me the lowest price, and I have a long list of places to visit... lets talk business.

Re: Do you HATE HATE HATE the car buying experience (bad dealerships)? Read this...

Man.. after reading stories about most of the folks' experiences makes me feel glad my experience was the best. I certainly hate pushy sales people and I did not deal w/ any of them.

The dealer I purchased the Jeep from... I walked in and said I am in the market but I am not buying one that day. The sales guy did not push and gave me the info I asked for. Felt nice about that and test drove a JKU 3 times and each time, the sales guy was very patient w/ me. Then when I was ready to order the Wrangler, I took a test drove a WK2 and having driven only 10 feet, I was in love with it. I said I want the WK2 and bought one in 1 week.

Most of the negotiations was done via email and I got 3 dealers to fight over the same Jeep to sell me. The original dealer whom I was in contact with, beat the other two dealers on price. I like their service department as well and take my jeep there even though they are 15 miles away (I have a Jeep dealer 2 miles from where I work).

Cheers,
-A

Re: Do you HATE HATE HATE the car buying experience (bad dealerships)? Read this...

At a Chevy dealer I bought an Impala, with cash, when I was 20, with no problems. Although being as young and dumb as I was back then, I didn't bother to negotiate down very much. But I was happy with the deal anyway and the finance manager there was pretty awesome and even pulled some strings to make it easier on me.

When I bought my Patriot in 2011 at a CDJ dealership, I did feel a little pressured and some of the tactics the salesman used were cheap, but it didn't bother me. I negotiated and I was happy with the deal. However the finance manager screwed up and I almost gave the Patriot back. Everything ended up ok, but not without some unnecessary effort invested on my part.

Last February when I was shopping for my WK2, I did a TON of research online and looked at dealers all over Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. I found the exact one that I wanted, and it was already marked down a lot. It was at a CDJ dealership that my family has purchased vehicles from for decades, and it's where I had my Patriot serviced (but I did not buy the Patriot from this particualr dealership). I contacted a friendly guy in the internet sales department, told him what I wanted and what I'm going to pay for it, and we met a couple days later. They bought out the lease on my Patriot, plus I negotiated an extra $1000 on the trade-in. They accepted my offer and I was in the WK2 that same night. There were some hiccups with the finance manager, he forgot to have me sign a couple of forms so I drove back and forth a couple of times. Then Ally didn't receive my odometer statement. In the end everything got settled, and it was a relatively hassle-free experience. I was planning to do all of my negotiating online and I didn't really want to meet in person but the salesman was awesome and it was a stress-free process. He's someone that I will buy from again and send friends and family to.

In my experience, it's not the car buying experience that's a hassle -- it's always the car financing experience.

The foreign dealerships strike me as some of the worst. We made the mistake of giving our name and number to guys at the local Kia lot, and they have called/emailed us literally two dozens times in the month or so since. It almost feels like an obsessive GF: "What happened? Why aren't you returning our calls?" I finally emailed the sales manager back and told him they seem so desperate that we're not comfortable with them.

Even my best experience at buying a new car has left me flat and dissappointed with the experience
I always go away feeling cheated and lied to

Must be somthing about the way sales men / women are trained
Every word out of their mouth is a lie

It's the other way around, dealerships are more interested in screwing/gouging their customers. The buyer ALWAYS has to be on the defensive due to all the trickery and deceit.

So true. My first purchase ever was an eye opener and the dealer screwed me over badly. I went in not knowing what I was doing and listening to my mom who is the worse financial person I know and bought into all the crap the dealer feed to me.
I look back and laugh about it now and use it as an expensive lesson learned, but they asked me what the max I could afford was which was stupid of me to answer. They then adjusted the price to match what I could afford with the numbers game they play and stupid me didn't know what the price of the vehicle was to begin with, gave me only $3,000 of the $4,000 rebate that was being offered and still had me put $2,000 down. They never gave me the window sticker since they knew they were screwing me over, but I ended up finding out I still bought the vehicle over $3,000 over the MSRP and that included the $6,000 they got from me from the down and rebate.
They claimed to sweeten the deal by throwing in a free alarm system, but wouldn't give me the steps since they would lose money on adding them

You know a good way to get the salesmen to leave you alone? Tell them you're set on getting the diesel version. I've never seen salesmen disappear so quickly before ...

Even when mentally prepared for the hijinx and shenanigans that will be employed, it still gets under my skin.
I have posted in here a few times about the quality of a dealership relationship... Finding a good place to deal is important. If anyone asked me for money (deposit) before I could get the details on finance or a test drive, I would not only leave but I would also call the manufacturer's customer service. Had it happen once, deposit before drive, called the manufacturer and the lady was appalled, got a call back from the GM at the store, all apologies and I never seen that sales person again.

That is another point... Most of the worst scams I have seen were by sales people doing stuff the dealer didn't even know about until someone complained. That was a salespersons "professional fee" that was trying to be charged even though I had not purchased anything yet!
