Do You Wax?

No cupcake, I'm not talking about your bikini line... LOL

What do you do to your new baby to keep her looking sexy? I have read that it is bad to wax a newly painted car from the factory and I have also read that it is completely ok to do that. If it's ok, I was planning on waxing it asap to help protect the paint. It looks like people are saying it is better to use the new synthetic polymer based waxes (such as Meguiar's Ultimate Wax, Mothers California Gold Synthetic Wax and Turtle Wax ICE Premium Care Liquid Wax) as they generally provide longer-lasting protection and are easier to use in the sun than older-style carnauba-based waxes (such as Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax and Mothers California Gold Pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax). I've also read that they provide longer lasting protection than the older waxes.

Do you polish too, or is that unnecessary this early in the car's life? I've read that some people polish first and then wax on top of that.

What is your favorite wax or polish to use? What products do you like to use on your car generally (wheel and tire cleaner, interior, etc)?

Thanks!

Nope....not for decades. I've never felt the need for it.

Re: Do You Wax?

Yep. Whenever I get a new car I usually do a pass over it with a clay bar to make sure there isn't any grime or dirt that got worked in during storage and transport. Little polish and then wax.

Right before winter I toss on a coat of a synthetic wax (as opposed to carnuba) as carnuba is only good for a couple weeks to a month, the synthetic stuff will stay around for most of the winter.

I buy from DetailersDomain.com - they sell some high end stuff and are out of NNJ. So if you're in Philly the stuff shows up next day.

Re: Do You Wax?

No problems waxing when new. The paints used today can be clayed, waxed, etc. right away. I use Griot's Garage products since they're very gentle and do a good job.

Re: Do You Wax?

I do the following after every winter. Clean car then clay bar top to bottom. Then add NU Finish Polish, then go over with Wax (Meguiar's Ultimate Wax).

Then it's just maintence from there, when it rains or collects dust, just take a microfiber towell and wipe it up. I also have a bottle of Chemical Guys Quick-Detailer for fast touch ups and to bring back the shine.

Collinite #845. Great wax, especially in winter time for protection. Lasts for months.

Re: Do You Wax?

I use Meguiar's spring and fall. I wash and dry by hand when dirty. My vehicles may not be show ready, but usually look better than average.

I recently bought some Adam's detailing spray. but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

DOAH!

I really like the Menzerna Polishes and Adams Buttery Wax.

This stuff is the best stuff for plastic trim ever: Adam's In and Out Spray - Best Engine Dressing. Goes on smooth and evenly and just makes the plastic look clean and new. Not the wet greasy look you get with armor all - the pictures at the bottom of the p-car engine bay really highlight how good it makes stuff look.

I have always waxed my new vehicles without any issues and used Meguiar's Car Care products. I try to wax both my Jeep & the wife's car two or three times a year.

Re: Do You Wax?

I clayed mine 1 week after I got it, then used Jetseal from Chemical guys. I use Adam's detailer when I wash and dry the GC which is a great product when drying the GC.
