Dodge Ram Hemi vs WK2

I just bought a '14 Ram and my wife has inherited my 2012 Grand Cherokee w/ Hemi. I'm not sure what it is but the Ram feels really strong compared to the GC. That's saying something because I think the GC runs really strong.

I know the Ram has a few more ponies, 3.92 gears and the 8 speed but it's also a lot heavier. It's a crew cab with the 6'4" bed, so she's a big girl. but she get's up and goes! Is it the trans, the gears or the tuning? Does the 8 speed hemi GC feel a lot stronger than the 6 speed? If that's the difference Chrysler made an awesome decision going to the 8 speed!

Another weird difference is the Ram calls for 100,000 spark plug changes versus then 32,000 changes for the GC.

I agree with you i had a v8 ram as a loaner recently and i must say it is a better implementation of the 8spd than the 2014 GC when i got back in my 2014 v8 GC almost felt like something was wrong. The ram really moved very perfect and seamless. Gc is good but the ram just felt like a nicer setup with the 8spd. Gc was smoother and quieter cruising though.
2014 GC v8 has 100,000 mile plugs.

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi vs WK2

That 3.92 rear end in the Ram vs 3.09 in the jeep is the difference I would think.

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi vs WK2

I would say it comes down to the trans tune being better in the 8spd ram. also the 3.92 gears is better in accel and towing. and the third factor id the engine tune in the ram is a little more aggressive.

so even tho the ram is heavier, the driveline is better optimized to get it going

I think you are right jeff gearing is part of it but I think the trans tuning is the big thing and far superior on the ram. ram just felt seamless, everything was one, very good job they did on that. Don't get me wrong the Jeep is fine not saying there is a problem or anything it just felt more disjointed and unresponsive when getting back into it. you really need to drive a 2014 ram and a 2014 jeep with v8s back to back and you will understand. after a few days the jeep felt fine again lol, the ram had just spoiled me

Maybe the Jeep boys should talk to the Ram boys.

Yep, it's hard to keep one's foot out of an engine that has some giddyup.

I'll have to take a Ram out one of these days.

I fully agree on that one. With all my mods i have taken down an early hemi ram (wanna say it was an 03) he stayed with me up to about 70 and then i pulled from him. So with my mods the v6 has some giddy up lol.

Id still take a hemi tho. More potential

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi vs WK2

Im not sure what the ram does 0-60 but it was more the feel of the whole drivetrain that I was impressed with very seamless

I think the new ones are high 6 low 7 0 to 60. I did race a newer one at the track. It was a 13 rt ram. He got me by .2 of sec in the 1/8th. I ran a 10.37 he went 10.1x. I had a slightly higher trap speed. He got off the line faster tho. Cant beat that 3.92 and that low end torque

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi vs WK2

Yeah, gearing is a big part of it. I haven't run with a gear ratio like that since the 70's... LOL.
