I had how it's deep in a "pocket". Hassle reaching and finding it in there. I wish it was more shallow and then the pocket can actually be used for something.
Also, I had the way the glove box. You cant fit anything in there, or you wont be able to close the box.
I'm fine with the glove compartment and the storage area in the center counsel. I did use the USB in the 2011 center arm rest storage to charge my iPhone via the USB cable on occasion....but with no USB connection in the 2014 center arm rest storage, I guess I'll either have to use the USB in the center counsel or get a cigarette charger to use in the center arm rest storage. It is a bit odd that they eliminated the USB in the center arm rest area though. No hate here.... LOL
NOPE --- In my 2014 the only USB connection is in the center console below the radio touch screen in that little cubby. I do NOT have a USB connection in the center arm rest (my 2011 had one in the top try, my 2014 doesn't). The only connection in the center arm rest is a constantly on cigarette adapter while the center console below the radio has: the aux audio input, SD, USB and 'ignition on' cigarette adapter.
I'm perfectly happy with the location of these items on my particular JGC. (no SD, obviously, since I have a MY12, but I wouldn't use it anyway) The storage compartment handles everything I want it to just fine...some chewing gum, the wife's Carmex. Important stuff you know.
The bottom section of the console isn't too shabby... the top section is good for very very small items only. It takes a bit to get used to left lift or right lift for the console.
The USB location under the radio is a pita for ham fisted folks, as is the SD connector, etc.
For the USB, I use a short SANDisk USB cable extension... even works when burning software.
Those connections are a little bit deeply recessed in the 2014 making it a minor PITA to connect, but there could be worse problems. Not a huge deal for me.
Use the SD and USB slots all the time. Took a little getting used to at first, but no problem now. The glovebox isn't huge, maybe that's why they call it a "glove" box. The storage space in the bottom of the center console is cavernous, I keep all kinds of crap in there.
You can get 256GB SDXC cards, although they are crazy expensive. I currently have a 64GB card in there, 128GB isn’t too badly priced.
I find it far more conveinet to use the SD card for storage and playback.
If I'm being honest I do find the recessed USB difficult to reach. I use it all the time since you don't get full function with the iphone via bluetooth. But then again anything beats that little usb cover that had that latch on it that was impossible to put on straight and kept falling off.
I like the location of the USB and cigarette lighter plugs just fine on my '14. The cubby underneath the radio stack is deep enough so that I can keep a charger plugged in and connected to an iPhone and still be able to close the lid and hide it all (including the charging cable). Great design IMHO.
Regarding storage (glove box, etc.)...Between glove box, center console arm and media areas, and door pockets (likey the extra drink bottle slots) I have ample room for all my doo-dads.
He has a Summit so he does have those 2 charge only USB in back but u sent him down wrong path when u referred to the cable pass- thru notch. That is for the always hot cig adapt plug in the center console.
I don't like that it only has one 12v plug in the dash. The SD card is difficult to get in/out. I have to use the back of my index finger and middle finger to insert/eject. I use a duel adapter to plug in both my radar detector and GPS then close the little door with the wires sticking out both sides. I only use the GPs when on a road trip so not a big problem.
I've thought about installing a duel 12v outlet but not sure where or how to install and hard wire it. I really don't see a place under the dash where it would fit and be within easy reach. If anyone has done this and has a photo that would be great.
HT
I think the location is great, though I would like a cable pass-through like the one Bill mention on the center stack, for the cubby hole media center.
This was brought up before, but since some never found it without being told, I'll bring it up again. There's a shelf above the USB, SD slots that is real nice for some small storage. I keep a bunch of SD cards and USB drives there.
I don't like current USB and SD position in 2014 JGC. Consider that in my Summit (European Diesel model) there is a CD player in the center armrest, leaving very small space inside. The presence of CD player implies also the lack of the upper slim compartment in the center armrest, the place where - in my previous 2012 JGC - I had the USB port. That compartment was useful to keep my iPod Classic permanently connected, while I could use the USB port in front of the 2012 Uconnect system to charge my phone.
Now, to keep the USB port in the center console free for charging my phone, I'm forced to drop my iPod and move my music on the SD Card. But my music library is larger than the larger of the SD cards available....
