Does oil change indicator system consider the engine oil type?

I read the article online.
Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Oil Change Indicator System
The system does not consider the oil type, such as mineral oil, synthetic oil. And some synthetic oil has extra long life.
So, there is no difference for oil life between different engine oil type, but there should be.

The oil indicator system would need to be able to reliably detect the difference between the types. Given no industry standard markers and essentially no difference between the actual physical characteristics, this could be a tad tricky without building in an oil testing system.

Nope. Doesn't know if it's Wally World special or if it's Motul double ester. The calculation is based off the specified oil (petroleum meeting MS 6395) and uses throttle position, load, speed, temperature, and a host of other variables to determine oil degradation.

My '14 v6 seems to be set at 10K intervals no matter what.

I think that means you are an average driver and not working it hard, if you start running hard often or towing heavy a lot it should reduce to a lower change point.

I've only seen ours turn on once. I just take it in to get changed around 8,000 miles or so. The dealership always puts a sticker wearing it changed every 3,000 miles, but I ignore that.

I don't know. I put 4900 miles in under 3 weeks during a span and didn't see a change at all. I do tow during spring and summer.
