I bought my Travall barrier for about $225 shipped from Amazon. It's really a great piece.

As much as I love this little guy, I would be pretty mad if he tore up my interior. This barrier is a great way for us to both coexist in the Jeep plus he's only 6 months so I know he's looking at those leather seats as a giant chew toy!

Re: Dog barrier

I use a normal harness on my dog and attach a very short strap maybe 1 1/2 ft long to the floor. It lets them still lay down and move around a little without them being able to climb on the seats or even worse be ejected from the vehicle during a crash. My brother in law lost both of his pets in a rollover accident by not having his pets buckled :-(

Here's part 2 of getting around with my dog. Thule Force XL roof carrier to carry all our stuff on top so we have room for 4-5 passengers and the dog.

Re: Dog barrier

This has been on my list since before I ever took delivery of my jeep. I still haven't bought it yet. I've been toting 200lbs worth of dogs in a G35 coupe the last year and a half. This week I will be taking a road trip with one of my pups and it'll be a test on how needed the barrier is.

I was considering a few options- 1 smaller crate but he would be too cramped and I still lose the backseat. 2 was a harness and seat belt but it was limiting his movements too much and seat covers weren't keeping in place and I didn't want to ruin the leather of my new Jeep. In addition I'm limited to 1 passenger in the back. 3 the dog barrier, my solution.

So the plan is to have him in the hatch area any time he's in the vehicle, keeping him from jumping to the front and bothering passengers or destroying seats and it keeps him and occupants safe in the event of a collision. This gives me room for 5 passengers as well. And for traveling the best solution was to go with a roof rack and carrier.

That being said- I wanted to point out that I bought the Travall barrier. This is normally difficult to get in the US but I found it online and in stock. I ordered it last week on Tues and it arrived today (Tues)- about a week in spite of our NE snow storm. This barrier is great! Very easy install, very sturdy, looks awesome and is a great piece.

Attached are a few pics- sorry it's a little dark outside.
I want to purchase this but it's on back order! Hoping its back in stock soon!

This is an awesome thread! I have a ridgeback as well. We've been toting him around in my 07 Acura TL, which isn't the greatest seeing how he gets EXTREMELY car sick. We just ordered our 14 limited, max steel yesterday, and I'm...curious to see how the dog does. So do travel kennels really not fit in the cargo area? Just by looking at it, I think ours will fit sideways. After reading this thread, I'm not sure now. Can any of you guys get a large travel kennel to fit? I'd love to let him hang out back there on a tether but he'd end up spewing all over, and I'd like to try to contain that. Thanks for the help! And the picture is my wonderful cuddled up with the doggy.

Your ridgeback looks almost identical to mine. I haven't tried to fit a travel kennel in there but my large create isn't even close to fitting. However, with the seats folded the crate is close but because of its very square design it won't clear the roof where it starts to slope down. So with the seats folded, I actually think the kennel would fit. But it will take up all your cargo area leaving you with just enough room for some carry on bags only and certainly forget about any additional passengers. I picked up a nice jeep cargo mat for the rear to keep it somewhat clean, and I know they also sell canvas liners to help keep the cargo area clean as well. This can be a great add on with the barrier to help if he pukes.

Im thinking I'll get a weathertek cargo area liner and let him puke all over, then just spray it off or something. It sure would be nice to have a dog that enjoyed going for car rides!

Re: Dog barrier

I just got the Travall barrier and divider too. Found one of them as a second on Amazon. Quality is great and can't tell why it's a second. Dog isn't happy losing her backseat spot but she'll get used to it.
