Door help

I found this hole under the drive side door yesterday after washing the vehicle. Does anyone else have this. My brother took it in to get painteless dent removal. I'm not sure if they drilled the hole or it was there and they messed it up. I've discovered it after a black cover fell on the floor. Sorry that the picture is a little blurry.

Re: Door help

that looks like a drain hole. if you plug it up, your door will fill up with water when it rains.

Certainly isnt any sort of factory drain hole. Your PDR guy did it.

Re: Door help

Thanks. That's what I thought. It was the only door with a hole. I found out when the plug feel out. I'm thinking the idiot drilled a hole and plugged it. Then messed up. I found the plug when I opened the door.

I'd be pretty damn upset with him for doing that without consent. You need to go ahead and clean the hole and primer it or something so it doesnt rust in the future.

That plug MUST also be installed snug and sealed with a silicone sealant. That edge is outside the door seal so all the road spray gets at it.

Re: Door help

I agree with the others. Any hole that has the paint flaked off around it like this was drilled and wouldn't have come that way from the factory. And it was drilled by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

When you want to drill a hole in something that is painted, fiberglass, etc. you put tape over the area to be drilled. The tape helps keep the coating from cracking and flaking like this. With metal, you then need to clean the area, dry it, and then paint it to keep from rusting.

I also agree with a previous poster that using silicon around the edge and then installing a properly sized plug, one that fits snugly, would be highly recommended.

Re: Door help

I wouldn't think it would be a far stretch to make them pay for a new door. Unless they described exactly what the process entailed, that's not something I would have consented to. I would very calmly tell then they owe you a new door.

I know it sucks but trying to color (esp metallic) match a new non - factory painted door is far far worse, IMHO.

Re: Door help

Most likely the paint on the inside of the panel is damaged (and the point of the drill probably hit the inside of the outer skin as well), so that's going to need some careful repair to avoid rusting out.
