Door misalignment

I finally took delivery of my 14 CRD today, great looking and driving vehicle. While at the dealership I noticed that the rear edge of one of the doors was a few mm further out than the body. Also saw one of the tail lights has a gap at the top. Tail light fix isn't a big issue I'm sure. My question is, is having the door re-aligned by a few mm worth it? In order to accomplish that the door has to be removed, right? Will removing the door break any kind of paint "seal" from when the body was painted? Not sure if the hinges are on the body when it gets painted.

Re: Door misalignment

Sounds like your vehicle shouldn't have made it past quality control. I'd have told the dealership it needed to be fixed before taking delivery.

They've informed the body shop that I'll be bringing it over, no cost to me. Just want to make sure I won't be introducing the potential for other issues by having the door removed to align it...

Re: Door misalignment

I don't understand why the door would have to be removed.

One of my questions was about door removal, never said I knew if it had to. Can they realign it without removing it?

Re: Door misalignment

Well, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. I haven't mentioned this before here, but the Grand Cherokee that I had originally ordered and came in had alignment issues with three of the doors. The driver side front door when closed looked like it wasn't latched all the way, the rear sat out from the rear quarter noticeably as well, although not nearly as much. On the passenger side, they fit tight, but the rear door was down about 2mm. I don't know how they missed that one, or how it is even possible as it does not look adjustable. The driver's door is the first thing I noticed, then the rear door. The hatch was off too, but that seems to be very common with almost all of them. It was VERY disappointing to see the vehicle you spec'd out and waited for for 2 months have issues like that. I am not one to complain about small stuff, but at the price we paid I expect the body to fit better than that. We brought this up with the manager at the dealership, and I will say they were very good about it. In the end, we ended up with another Overland (at their suggestion) that came at about the same time, and are happy with it. I wouldn't say the door fit is as good as the German cars I have had before, but it is much better than the one we ordered. I am guessing they sold that one to someone who didn't notice or care, as it was only in their inventory for a few days.

Re: Door misalignment

Marlon JB2, our man on the inside, said here recently that they occasionally stop the production line for vehicles which fall off the line. It is picked up and put back on the line. Just sayin'...

Re: Door misalignment

My drivers side door was high at the rear edge, they got it realigned quite well but it made it harder to close.

Yeah uh no.

They're picked up and scrapped.

Where did I say this?

And yes, all hinges are on the body when painted. Only the doors are removed during assembly. The hood and tailgate remain attached.

kpow, I'd like to see some pictures if you don't mind. We have been battling this issue since 2010, and have made great strides. The first 2011s... oh boy. With that said, I have a misaligned tailgate on my KK Liberty. The gap on the left is larger than the right *but* this actually worked out in my favor. There's enough space for a CB antenna mount! (I try to look at the positives in any situation)

My 2014 has some alignment issues (rear door, front fender and tailgate).

I had the same issue with my Overland. Noticed it the first time I washed it. It was fixed at the dealership and looks great now

Marlon, I'll try to take some pictures once I can get it clean...snow just doesn't let up! This week looks warmer and I may get a free car wash (rain)
