Dr. Colorchip - Anyone use lately?

Have a Maximum Steel Overland with a little road rash on the front. Not any real big rock chips just some nicks, but they show up whitish on my front end. I tried the clear bra thing and they messed that up so I had to remove it (explained in another thread). So now I'm looking to fix the damage I have and although it's not too bad, I'd like to touch it up. Has anyone used this kit lately and what were the results? Any certain technique that works over the stock instructions?

Re: Dr. Colorchip - Anyone use lately?

I recently used it on my Saturn Outlook, definitely not as flawless as the video would make you believe. Really nothing more than touch up paint and some thinner. You wipe it into the chips with a glove or brush, let it dry a little and take off the overage with the thinner and a lint free rag. Looks good enough when your done but the indentation from the chip is still there. Don't expect it to just disappear and more than a bottle of touch up paint......

Re: Dr. Colorchip - Anyone use lately?

I used this on my Jeep and the wife's Acura. It's still just touch up paint but compared to others I've tried over the years I was pretty impressed. The color appears to match better than other brands and I would recommend it.
Good Luck with the touch ups!

Re: Dr. Colorchip - Anyone use lately?

I was wondering the same thing. My "new" baby appears to have taken a shopping cart or something on the lip of the driver's door in a past life, and I want to cover it up before the New England rust eats the whole door, lol.
Definitely interested in seeing your before/after, Morax.

I have the larger kit, deep cherry red.

typical rock dings, it does a very good job of covering up, where they note that this is done such that it is not visible at a given distance. You can still see artifacts of the ding afterwards... but from a couple feet you'll very likely not notice them.
Much better than a typical touch up paint can do unless perhaps in the hands of a ding expert.

scratches, particularly ones with any length [as in even 1/4 inch], it will cover up, but you'll still be able to see those. I had a bit better luck letting the cover harden longer on a warm day before rubbing with the second fluid. Thinking about filling with a teeny bit of bondo and a toothpick and trying again.

Overall, it is pricey, and for non scratch type dings, quite good. They do have a competitor that claims to be better on scratches, but I'll either pre-bondo or bribe the dealer's detail guy.
