Knightrider03m, dealers are free to set their own prices whether a vehicle is new or used, just like any other commodity. In situations where a dealer has only one vehicle of a new model they will often add a hefty premium as they are not eager to sell it - they want to use it to sell off of until more inventory arrives. A classic example of this was when the Challenger was launched a couple years ago, most dealers only got one or two initially and were adding premiums of up to $20k. The first Challenger I saw at a local dealer had a sticker price of $69,999! Believe it or not, there were some "suckers" out there who paid up to $20k premiums!
I stand corrected then. I just thought that it was law to sale a demo at a low cost.

I would recommend to stay away from demo cars unless you know the person that drove it. IMO

Re: Dreams crushed

Titled or not, a vehicle with a significant amount of miles on the clock is used.

Re: Dreams crushed

when the ls460 came out, the dealership only had the demo for sale, but it only had like 300 miles...and my dad fell in love with it, but they didnt move on the price...so it all depends on who your dealing with, and what the demand is i guess..

Re: Dreams crushed

I keep coming back to these forums every day as if it will somehow get me my overland quicker. I really hate waiting. I wish they'd allow me to order it at least for now

Re: Dreams crushed

ive learned its better to wait for something you want..i wish i had waited because i had no intention of buying an suv, but i wanted a car right away, so i didnt wait, and i regret it everyday, even though i love my jeep, because i wanted something with good gas mileage and with a manual transmission...but i didnt wait...good luck though

It could be test drive miles OR your vehicle could have been a part of Chrysler's Quality Test Fleet. They do this randomly, drive them about 60 or so miles, to do a deeper check for squeaks, rattles, etc.

My sister's Jeep was like that, had 81 miles on it when she bought it.

Your car wasn't a demo. I bought my Lincoln with 72 miles on it. Maybe it was a dealer trade and they drove the car instead of towing/hauling it.

My moms 02 Dodge Durango R/T was a demo and she got it at 5K miles. The place the I got my Jeep from at two demos for sale, one was a GC that had 3K on it and the other was a Commander that had 2.5K miles on it. My salesman demo that was a Jeep Liberty at 2.5K miles on it and he was still driving it.

But then there was a dealership that I was going to buy my Jeep from but didn't was trying to push off a Jeep Liberty that had 500 miles on it and it wasn't a demo. The salesman brought it out so I can drive it and mid way though my test drive I looked at the miles and looked like this ------>

Without a doubt, wait and order/find the EXACT model you want with the options and interior/exterior that is your first choice. You won't regret waiting.

Re: Dreams crushed

Supply and demand.

I was shopping for a new car for my father last month. The dealer had what he wanted, but it was a demo with 5,000 miles. They wanted the exact same price as a new one (EE pricing). I waited 2 weeks and checked inventory, the exact same car arrived (without leather) and we bought it for $1,200 less. It had 2 miles on it when we drove it home.

I bought a "used" Super Duty with 148 miles on it. Saved $5k instead of buying new (had to drive 4hrs each way to get it).

There is rarely a compelling reason to buy a "demo", the dealers cost on the vehicle is the same as a new car and dealers like to make money on all cars. You can normally find what you want within a few hour drive.

If you want an Overland now, I would search inventory within 200 miles on Jeeps website and make some calls. One of the dealerships will sell you what you want at a reasonable price. BTW- I buy ALL of my cars over the phone. I never see the car in person until I am writing the check. By shopping around I generally save between $1k-$5k depending on what I am buying. I can normally buy a new car cheaper than a used one with 15,000 miles. You just have to be willing to travel a few hours and make a few phone calls.
