Driver door open with engine running. Does your WK2 make any sound/alarm?

Hi guys,

When my Jeep is running and the driver door is open, I do not hear any chimes/dings/beeps. Is this normal? Can someone please check this on their Jeep and confirm?

If this is normal behavior, I am planning on doing a mod to make it sound when the door is open ignition is on (and/or engine running). If I end up doing this, I will do a complete writeup with pictures. Since I am off next week from work, I am thinking of doing this next week.

I again left my jeep running for 15 mins last week... when I went into the store. This is the 2nd time I have done this.

Cheers,
-A

Mine doesn't as long as I (or the key fob rather) remain in the vehicle. It will start chiming when it detects that the fob has left the car.

Re: Driver door open with engine running. Does your WK2 make any sound/alarm?

Ok.. thanks.

Looks like this is normal behavior. I will try to do a mod so I get some kind of sound when the door gets opened and engine is running/ignition is on.

I wonder why the Jeep engineers decided to skip this. Every car i have owned or driven always makes sound when the door is opened and engine is running. Perhaps, this is how all new cars with start/stop feature behave. I bet, it is a simple programming task for the Jeep engineers to make the jeep sound when door is opened and engine running. Does not make sense to not do this...

Next task is to hunt for a switched wire under the dash or somewhere....

cheers,
-A

My previous vehicles beeped or sang or whatever, when the key was left in the ignition with the door open. It didn't matter if the car was running or not.

I got over it, but when I first got the Jeep I started to get out a couple of times without shutting the car off. This was after getting over looking for the key.

I actually hated when my previous rides would make sounds when I opened the door while they were running. I'm obviously opening the door for a reason... Also, I can hear the engine running so don't really need a reminder it's on! But maybe my diesel is louder than your gas engine

^^ agree. The new Jeep is too darn quiet. I can hardly hear the engine and if I happen to park in a lot that faces a busy street like I did last week, I cannot hear it at all. It purrs like a little kitten... LOL.

The worst part is that if the gear does not sense park you can press the start button and nothing happens & if you step out it will drive off without you.

Seem like it would be simple to automagically shift to park if the fob leaves (but is sensed outside) and speed is less than 2 mph.

LOL. My first car with start/stop as well. Took a little bit of time to get used to it. Now with my other older car I find myself pulling the door handle and wondering why is this not opening.

Keyless entry or passive entry (whatever they call it) is crazy useful when you have hands full of groceries or groceries in one hand and baby in the other. Also love it when going mountain biking and don't have to scramble to find a key somewhere in the backpack to open the jeep. My next car will have to have that as well.

Unfortunately I find out that KEYFOB will not work when I put it in the same pocket as my iphone 4s. Strange. I guess some radio interference.
