Re: Driveway-rated ?

Tires, tires, tires ...did I mention tires?

I've had no issues with my Blizzaks through the recent snow storms here in the Chicago area.
If you never had a dedicated snow tire you really don't know what your missing.

To be honest, when I got my GC I'm figuring no snowblower. All my neighbors were showing off their snowblowers before the storm hit here. I just parked my cars in a single line with the GC on the end. When I wanted to get out I just reduced the height of the pile that the snowplow dumped at the end, but after that I got right out over a foot or so of snow. So I then ended up with one clean driveway 'lane'. After that I parked my GC on the unplowed side and got out everytime. Snowblower free!

I only moved 10 ft and got stuck, moved forward a bit then back again and stuck again and the ABS , 4wd needs service and the traction control light up. Same as the last time, traction only on rear right. Pam Pam! I was furious !

Started shoveling, way less snow this time so in 30 min I tried moving again and I managed to drag it back to the garage. Shoveled the rest of the driveway to get rid of ALL the snow and decided to risk my ass and drive the car like this to the dealership.
In the meantime I tried starting and stopping the car 5--6 time ,drove it back and fw in the driveway hoping
the errors will go away. But nothing. Then I decided to leave, didn't feel like towing it again.

Guess what? The second I was out of my driveway and into the main rd all the lights ( abs, traction control and 4wd service message) went off.
Car was back to normal !! WTF !!
Drove it to the dealership....and scheduled to drop it tomm. Everybody there had no clue. I have no clue and nobody else seems to have the issue unless we're talking about sand and we're not !
As a side note this time I didn't even manage to get into 4lo , started with offrd 2 in snow mode. Also this time I had 0 snow around the brake calipers or inside the wheel.

Arghhhhgg!

This really sucks, something has to be wrong or too sensitive with some sensors on your Jeep...I mean, there are times where I drive out my garage and there's 12+ inches of snow, granted I have some wicked winter tires, but still...I donít understand why all your sensor are lighting up...and not recording any errors...I hope you soon find a way to duplicated these errors so the dealer can actually do something to correct the situation...You bought a Jeep, not to get stranded in 12inches of snow!

So what are the codes associated with your errors?

Re: Driveway-rated ?

My tires all wrangler adventures.
Anyway like I said the problem is not that I'm getting stuck ... The problem are the errors and the fact that I can't turn off (partially I know) the traction control.
I called the dealer and again they didn't find anything ... They said they tried to replicate and they couldn't.
What can I say...
I'll prob go to another dealer next time.
Aparently they can't troubleshoot if the errors are not active.

Re: Driveway-rated ?

Like said tires make a huge difference. I got the jeep stuck last week on an unplowed road, I tried rocking it but nothing, then I just mashed the gas and it reved up for a second then traction control started doing its thing killed the power and the jeep just started crawling forward until it was out. I was impressed with it, I didn't have to shovel it out or call for a pull.

You had traction control control off? Or everything on auto?

Re: Driveway-rated ?

I am not a MDX a supporter or anything, but I had a 2003 and a 2008 and both were unstoppable in the snow and ice...2" or 2 ft deep. No dials, no ORA settings no hi low settings...just go... If you couldn't make it..you had no business being out there....

I bought this vehicle mainly for the mileage, ( and I like diesels, have a cummins too...) and so far it has delivered...but if it can't deal with 2 ft of snow properly equipped, with the dash flashing and sensor issues etc...it doesn't deserve a jeep badge. It hasn't got that test with me yet, but if it doesn't pass when time, it will be the first and last Jeep in my garage....

If your a typical Summit owner, Jeep has it's work cut for them.

I still think it depends on the snow. Softer, new snow probably is no problem, but if it's heavy and you don't have forward momentum like on a driveway sometimes, you probably could get shelved. Isn't the clearance only about 10 1/2" even in OR2? Properly equipped would probably also mean snow tires.

I couldn't agree more! I dumped my Forteras for a set of Nokian WRG3s just before the big Super Bowl storm, here in Detroit, and I couldn't be more pleased. After a few close calls I decided different tires were necessary and haven't had any issues since.
