Driving out of the snow in '11 4x4 WK2 with QT I

Do I need to limit the gearbox to the first gear when going forward? Or should I just leave it in "D"? As I said before, this is '11 4x4 WK2 with QT I (Laredo X). No 4-low mode or Snow mode.

If anything, you would want to start off in second gear.

Why is that? As far as I know it is not possible with this transmission.

To reduce wheel slippage...if that's a word...that's what snow mode does it holds second gear on take-offs...well that's at least one of the many things it does.

QT1 starts in drive. You can manually shift gears by bumping the shift lever to the left -a gear or the right +a gear.

This allows you to use the transmission as if it were manual. The 11-13's don't have paddle shifters but you are able to control the 5 gears.

I have to dig up manual but I think this is incorrect. Not just for QT I but for any transmission. If you start in neutral and put it in "3" that means it will not go above the 3, but 1 and 2 will still be used. If you driving in "D" (on 5 speed transmission) and tap it twice to the left it will limit highest ratio to 3 (dropping to it from 4 or 5 if it is in 4 or 5).

In other words, I think this does not specify exact gear to be used but highest gear that can be used.

You are correct. I need to stay away from the technical stuff LOL

Re: Driving out of the snow in '11 4x4 WK2 with QT I

On a NORMAL transmission, your right, 3 means it shifts UPTO 3, 2 means UPTO 2, etc...HOWEVER, even on my old F350 with an auto, you could MANUALLY shift the gears to whatever you wanted providing the ECU decided it was safe. so starting is second was quite possible.

Some modern transmissions allow you more control over your transmissions then the older ones. For example, on the new 2014's with the 8speed, I can physically select a gear... and I belive on that old transmission when you put it into manual shift mode, you can as well....though I only drove one once...
