Driving the Hemi in eco mode

So most of the time I drive the truck in the eco mode that is default upon start up. I noticed though that when I need a little power to maneuver around traffic or if I floor it to WOT, the truck is just plain confused. Power delivery is not linear, shifting is all over the place, and the time it takes to downshift is pretty much glacial. Anyone just abandon this altogether and drive the thing in normal mode around town? Anyone else have the same issues as I have?

Re: Driving the Hemi in eco mode

Is this a new vehicle?

If so, it takes a while for it to learn your driving style. Once it does, it is more responsive for sure.

Re: Driving the Hemi in eco mode

Not sure why yours would do that. When driving mine in the ECO mode even 1/4 throttle will get the tranny to downshift right away, and it's always a relatively smooth transition. How does it respond when driving in the non-ECO mode (like TOW/HAUL)?

Re: Driving the Hemi in eco mode

I drive in normal mode most of the time. What I find with the Hemi is that pushing the pedal half way gives an instant, great response. Pedal to the metal results in a short delay.

I'm not doing any racing, but at the half pedal mark I can get out of any trouble that presents itself.

The OP doesn't mention which year or engine/transmission, which makes it a bit more difficult to answer anything other than general.

I find that if you do the 1/2-3/4 pedal trick enough in ECO mode [after a hard reset on purpose], it will learn that you honestly would like to get up and move after a while.

However, if I am coming up on a short passing area, a quick drop into Sport just before the passing area does shift it noticeably quicker... then just drop back to "I have to pay for this freakin' gas" ECO mode afterwards.

I drive in Normal mode and don't have any of the issues you mentioned.

Re: Driving the Hemi in eco mode

I had those issues at first. Complained to the dealer and they re-flashed the tranny. Working great since that time. My hemi has been know to get 21 mpg on the interstates at 75+mph.

Re: Driving the Hemi in eco mode

On mine, i noticed the tranny confused part when i first got mine. Primarily during breaking period and maybe a lil after. Now i would think as others have said that the ecm has learned by driving style. It's awesome. love every second behind the wheel....except when in LA traffic!
