Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Just did the same thing in February, was running late and distracted. Thankfully the trailer hitch bore the brunt. And I had only moved about 12inches. Enough to tear out the garage door trolley and hinge. Put a nice buckle in the door and pushed it outside the frame I got out walked around through other door and kicked the door back into the frame, opened the door manually, called my contractor neighbor and left for work. When I got home, door hinge was replaced, buckle straightened. Am still going to replace door at some point this summer. Glad to see I am not the only one.

Add one more to the dumb move list.
Last week I went to open the lift gate with my key fob & the garage door was still closed...no damage to garage door, but now I have my first official paint chip on my 6 month old JGC.

My excuse for one was that the old one was getting too dirty.
I want to see that new platform and engine choices! so maybe MY 2020 because I have learned no first model years of new platform from Chrysler.

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Well, it wasn't with my GC, but I once backed into my garage with the trailer ball still installed on the back of my F150.

Why would that be a problem?

Well, the garage is only 9 inches longer than the truck. So, normally, when I would back in until my rear wheels touch the raised portion of the floor at the back of the garage, it leaves about an inch of space to the wall and 8 inches for me to squeeze around the front bumper when the door is closed.

Needless to say, I stabbed my back wall with the trailer ball, poking a whole in it after only freshly painting it a month or so before.

Thankfully, no damage to anything that wasn't easily hidden by a fresh patch of drywall and some spackle.

I'm glad the GC is much shorter, so I can not only pull in forward, but also have plenty of space to the front and rear. My only issue is, I have to be sure the back gate is down when opening or closing the overhead door. The door clears, but the triangular shaped metal bracket that attaches the door to the closer won't. It would make a furrow down the middle of the back gate big enough to plant corn in it.

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Wow I'm glad I'm not alone on this crush the garage door thing, lots of people doing same thing lol. I guess its the rush rush of todays world. I im glad the door had not gone up a little higher or I would have ripped the shark fin antenna right off.

Of course a few months ago at the dealer that large mega garage door on the service bay came down on my jeep while I was waiting to pull forward. hit the rear glass and fortunately no damage, lucky it did not break. I have not had an accident in 30 years of driving but between these garage doors, dealer techs driving it into tool boxes and the two bent rims the jeep has been taking a beating recently.

When everyone else is shivering out in the cold while they scrape their windows, I'll take opening the garage, starting up and driving off in return for the remote possibility I might damage the vehicle by having it.

Plus, in 7 years or so, I'll still have some clear coat left not having put the paint through all the sun damage that results from outdoor storage.
