Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Well always make sure the garage door is finished going up before you start backing up I still cant believe I did this. Garage door seemed to take the brunt of the damage fortunately. Guess I will take a closer look at it tomorrow need to figure out how to get this garage door to close today so animals don't come in tonight

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Oops! I almost did something similar. Stopped short of my garage to grab something out of the back. I didn't push the hatch close button long enough so it didn't close and I wasn't paying attention. I started driving into the garage with the back hatch open when my brother who was in the garage yelled at me to stop. Probably would have put a good ding in the lower part of the hatch if I hadn't stopped!

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Know how you feel. I did this with my Jeep the door opener malfunctioned and didn't raise it all the way. Then in 1999 I had my first new vehicle since 1988 a Ford F150 SuperCrew 4x4 OTR. Door didn't raise high enough and I put a deep, did I say deep scratch 3/4 the length of the roof in a less than an hour old truck. Pissed at myself was putting it mildly.

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

I have a few very minor scratches- the rear hatch door occasionally scrapes the top of the garage door when fully opened. I have to park it more in to avoid any more problems. Thank goodness for the exit/entry mode or I have to move to another home with a larger garage.

In your case, how deep are the scratches? Any dents? Hard to tell the extent of the damage from the pics. The dent guys did wonders for me. Touch up paint will help mask most of the scratches if they are superficial or not too deep- at least make them less noticeable in the meantime. Keep those coyotes or raccoons or whatever out first!

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

Yep,few years ago in the Delmarva area I came home(it had been raining and turned to ice)parked in my driveway(an average sloped driveway)went into my house after slipping and landing flat on my ass,(much to the amusement of my wife) anyway, had a shower got changed and was in the bedroom and noticed a lot of brake lights, looked out front and saw my Jeep had slid down the driveway and was sitting in the middle of our street, pretty embarrassed went out and moved it QUICK,could feel the glares as I did.Put some ice melt down, then put it back in our driveway.Following morning went out, thought I had put it in reverse and hit the garage door.Moral of the story.Dont be a dumba$$!!!

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

This is why I always make sure there is enough junk in my garage to prevent me from attempting to park the GC inside

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

I ended up getting the door to go down so no animals will be infiltrating tonight. Think I was actually lucky on this because the inside of the garage door is ribbed and it could have just grabbed the spoiler and ripped it upward but it didnt. Its hard to tell if the paint was torn off or its paint transfer wil take a look and try to do something with it tomorrow with some polishing compound and touch up.

That gives me a battle wound to match the front now, had it at the dealer a few days ago for the state inspection and when I got home I saw that it looked like they had run it into a tray of tools, box cutters, heavy stuff or who knows what and it had dumped on the front bumper. About 20 gouges scrapes, cuts in the top of the front bumper all focused in an area about the size of a tool tray. I didn't even bother going back I know I would get the "we didn't do it, it was like that" and I honestly just didn't feel like another battle with them even though I know it wasn't as I just had it detailed the day before that and I of course went over it closely after that. Neither of the items are ones I would mess with the factory paint over. It turns 3 years old in a few days so stuff happens I guess but Id still prefer to be the one that does it vs a careless dealer. No surprise its always a risk turning it over to them.

Sorry to see that happened to you. But, it sounds to me like this might be an excuse for a new one.

My excuse for one was that the old one was getting too dirty.

Re: Dumb Grand Cherokee Move of the Day

I did the same on the way in, the garage door closed on me before the entire car was parked. Antenna chopped and garage door came off its rails with some dings. Home Insurance paid me out for the garage door, and went with a sharknfin like antenna. Purchased a new motor for the garage door, win win
