Re: dummy light

They changed to electric mid 2011 with no announcement. Mine, built in Feb. 2011 is hydraulic though. Well, I mean electric pump vs. belt driven.

The WK2 with an electric steering pump is not "electrically assisted steering".

The WK2, with electric pump, uses the same hydraulic assist technology as standard systems, but the hydraulic pressure comes from a pump driven by an electric motor instead of a drive belt at the engine.

Electrically assisted systems are entirely different and use no hydraulic pump and/or hoses.

WK2's with V6 have electronic power steering. Those with V8's retain hydraulic power steering.

Either way the systems used on the V6 vs the V8 are different.

From Autoblog.com.....

For those keeping track, there's an electronic power steering setup with the V6 and diesel, while the Hemi V8 still uses the tried-and-true hydraulic system.

That particular idiot light in my Acura indicated a problem with the power steering unit.

Re: dummy light

The V6 has a hydraulic power steering system powered by an electric motor driven hydraulic pump and the V8 has a hydraulic system powered by a belt driven mechanical hydraulic pump. It's not electronic power steering and its not electronic assisted. The only difference between the two systems is one uses an electric hydraulic pump and one uses a mechanical hydraulic pump. Electric does not equal electronic. Summit 2012 has it right in post #15.

Re: dummy light

This is funny. Reminds me of Mark Twain's "“It's not what you don't know that kills you, it's what you know for sure that ain't true.”.

All WK2s at present have hydraulic power steering. Period. All have a hydraulic pump. It is how the pump is driven (electric motor, engine belt) that is different.

If you want to divide rabbits, they are all hydraulically assisted since if they go ker blooey you can still change the steering angle.
