Re: DVD's in, Chrome strip off!

I don't see any cables going from the driver side to the passenger side. But I haven't gone right under with a flashlight to find it.
Under every day normal conditions the cable is invisible.

In Canada, the ceiling mounted DVD unit from Jeep is a $1300 option. I had my Rosen units installed by a high end local car audio shop for $1450. The owner of the shop is an acquaintance of mine so he may have given me a good deal. Not sure cause I didn't get any quotes from anyone else. He had my Jeep for about 7 hours. The install is very clean, you don't see any wires. They are run inside the seats and power was taken somewhere from the centre console. The units will play seperate DVD's or both will display the video source from one, or my daughter can watch a DVD on one screen while my son plays games on the other screen. It comes with 25 built-in video games, a game controller, two wireless headphones and a wireless remote. You can tune the car radio to 88.1 and audio will play on the cars speakers. You can also attach an XBox/PS3 or Wii to the monitors. The backs of the units can be ordered to colour match your interior. I chose black instead of saddle for the back because the seats have some black in them and I felt it looked better.

Good lord. It does all that? Does your family live in the car?

Re: DVD's in, Chrome strip off!

Back to the chrome strips.. I this it looks great with "GRAND CHEROKEE" lettering instead of the strips.. But I would be afraid of getting door dings since that protection would be gone...

I thought of that. Next time your in a parking lot, look at the car next to you... 9 times outta 10, if the guy would open that door into my Overland, the ding would hit above the chrome stripe.
It's a risk, but lots of cars, including the SRT8 don't have door protection because it takes away from the clean look of the lines.
But hey, it's a risk you gotta be willing to take.

Good point.. I guess since I'm getting the MOPAR rock rails, that would probably help more than anything.. I really like the clean looks thought without the strip... Now to try and get them off without screwing everything up...

i've been looking around lately and i've noticed *lots* of cars without the door moulding. my santa fe didn't have them and it didn't have a single door ding after 5 years. now, could be because i don't drive very often (i work from home). but really, if you do get a door ding or two, how hard is it to fix those? aren't there those places that just pop them out or whatever?

How do you go about taking the chrome strips off. Been wanting to do that on my Jeep as well.

I used a heat gun to heat up about a 4" section at a time. Just wave it along the chrome, don't hold it at one spot too long because you don't wanna damage the paint. Peel it away. You will have to take off some of the residue after the chrome is off. I just used my fingers.
To start off I used a plastic/rubber squeegy I got from my tint guy to get the end started.

I picked up a set of trail rated badges and the chrome door sill protectors off the eBay guy and will install them soon.

I just used fishing line, no need for heating. Rolled the excess tape off with fingers, the cleaned excess goo off with a product like goo gone. Then washed the area. You would never know there were chrome strips there
Whole process took around 40 mins
