ECO Mode

I noticed when driving my '15 JGC that it wasn't shifting correctly. Read a few posts regarding the ECO mode. It has been on for the first 300 miles driven. So I turned it off and definitely noticed a difference in the way it drives and shifts. It's much more responsive and a smoother ride. My two questions would be: has anyone else experienced this? And I know the transmission "learns" how each individual drives, so will driving in ECO mode for the first 300 miles (apparent break-in range) totally screw up that "learn" effect?

Thanks!

One would expect eco mode off would be more responsive. Eco mode sacrifices performance for gas savings. In my '14 it drove me crazy as it always defaulted to on. We have long stretches of 25 mph zones with no stop signs or lights. Within 1/4 mile the Jeep would be in fifth gear and the motor would start lugging slightly. When I turned Eco off or down shifted all was smooth. Happily when I get my '16 I should be able to turn it off once ... Set it and forget it.

As for learning your driving habits, that doesn't stop after 300 miles. If it did you would have to reset something ever time you switched drivers. Not every member of every household has their own car ... They share. The more data the system gathers the longer it takes for changes to take place. If you have 5,000 easy miles on your Jeep and one day decide you can beat that Vette when the light changes (ain't happening) your tranny will not suddenly think it's in a race car.

While transmissions are 'smart' these days, and the tcm does make adjustments, primarily to improve fuel economy, this learning process has become the whipping boy for every real and perceived transmission issue. Once it got around on the internet, everybody became a transmission specialist and will accuse your smart transmission of being a high school drop out.

Obviously ... IMHO :)

You must have a V6. These seem to be pretty common threads with the 8spd tranny and the V6 engines. I have a '14 V8 and eco mode seems to work just great. Sure it shifts conservatively, but thats the point. I dont get harsh shifting or any other issues. Seems to work great!
As far as the tranny "learning" how you drive, who knows. There is no telling how those systems work. The only thing I can recommend is maybe reset the vehicle and start over. Maybe there is a fuse for the tranny you can pull or you might have to disconnect the battery for a while. See if things are any different after the reset.

Eco mode works great for me in stop n go traffic. I only drive with eco off on weekends when traffic is light.

Oh I absolutely agree. I'm always playing with the different driving modes. ECO off, sport mode ,I love that stuff. I feel bad for the cars that when somebody gets on it and you see tons of black smoke just pour out of the back you know that engines got to be all gummed up inside. I think engines are designed to be run through out the RPM ranges.

When turning off the ECO button yesterday I felt a world of difference in pickup, gear shifting, and overall driving experience. Then for some reason today I turned off ECO mode and the car acted and drove as if it was still in ECO. Much different from yesterday when turned off. The car is EXTREMELY sluggish. This is making me want to pull my hair out!!! My initial thought was that the button wasn't working but I'm not sure there's anyway to tell whether it is on or not besides the feel of the shifting.

My new 2015 defaults to ECO mode off. Im not sure if this is normal or not, but I'm not going to complain :)

In my previous 2014 GC i would have to turn it off every time i got in to drive it. There is a noticeable difference when driving with or without eco mode. I always preffered having it off.

Selectable ECO default on/off was a change for MY15 to the chagrin of us MY14 owners. But my MY15 arrives late July....SCORE!!! :)

Yea and I actually get better MPG with Eco mode off go figure. Literally 2mpg more than I got with Eco mode on... It was always searching for gears and in the wrong gears with Eco mode with my heavier aftermarket wheels and tires.

I was wondering if there was that much savings in mileage with ECO mode on. I'll be driving about three hours this weekend for the holiday. I'm going to turn ECO mode off and see what the difference is. Something tells me it probably won't be much.

It all boils down to driving style - the way I see most people take off from stop lights, ECO or any other gas savings mode won't do any good. Obviously, the ECO programming was created to help the Jeep achieve best results during the EPA testing methods.

I drive pretty conservative. I don't like putting that extra wear on something I worked hard for. That and I live in some what of a small town and don't want to be considered the, "Small Town Hard ass guy". Every town has them. Our small town hard ass is so hard that his license plate says, "Haterz" and no, I'm not joking.
