Eco mode, huge difference

I made the drive from Dallas to Austin (about three hours) yesterday. Mid way through I noticed my mpgs were unusually low. Hovering around the 19.1 mark when normally it ranges from 23-26.

I realized that my "Eco mode" button was turned off. After turning it on my average jumped to 22-23mpg. I didn't think the Eco mode would make that much of a difference but it was surprisingly substantial.

Eco mode, huge difference

Interesting. I leave my Eco on, don't notice a difference either way with the 3.6

I only notice when I can keep my lead foot from controlling my speed.......
I also made a similar trip and it definitely helped.

Re: Eco mode, huge difference

Ok so besides a slight change in shift points thrn what else does Eco mode change in the V6? If you noticed changes in just cruise then it's gotta be more than just shift points.

Slight change? It basically keeps you in 8th gear from 40 mph or faster unless you mash the gas. I usually think there is something wrong with the Jeep, then I realize I never turned Eco mode off.

I tried using it on my commute when I first got the Jeep. Just can't do it, I can't physically sit in the slow lane and go the speed limit. Eco gets turned off as soon as I start up the car.

Re: Eco mode, huge difference

I always left Eco off on my 3.6. Got 18-19 around town and 22-25 out on the highway, depended on whether there were hills or not.

Re: Eco mode, huge difference

I just leave Eco on 95% of the time. The other time is just playing around in sport mode. Some of you guys with the 2014 models and don't like Eco mode would appreciate the 2015+ keeping your last setting.

Which is ironic because my jeep won't use 8th gear past 79mph

Re: Eco mode, huge difference

Dumb question here so don't mind me

Is ECO on by default? or do you have to press the button to engage? and I don't have the "Sport Mode" button either, just ECO Mode in the middle.

Re: Eco mode, huge difference

I have never seen a difference on the Hiway. Nothing changes, vehicle is in 8th gear and RPMS do not change if Eco is on or off. So IMO the eco does nothing via hiway driving. City driving it may make a difference because of shift points. Most of the time I just keep mine off.

On the 14's it's always on by default. Just look at the light in center if it's lite it's on. I think the 16's have a button for sport mode, 14s and 15's do not. In case you don't know how to get into sport mode when your in drive just tap your shiftier back. You'll see the sport mode icon in your dash then a flag meaning your in sport mode. To disengage repeat process.
