If you 2014 owners have had any software updates, you may want to check to see if the Eco mode still defaults to "on" at startup.

I'm fairly certain that mine defaulted to "on" at some point in the past. That's no longer the case. Just noticed this last week. (Yipee!)

I had all the updates and my 14 still defaulted to on. Mine was an early build.

I have a 2015 and with the last security update from this last year, it stays off when off at shutdown.

That's obvious. The question is, does it stay off at startup?

Mine is a February '13 build. Would you consider that an early build?

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

I'm driving a new 2016 4x4 Summit 5.7L, and the vehicle now has well over 5000 miles on it. I commute 110 miles daily, and I use eco-mode ONLY when I am on freeways and highways. At any rate, I have consistently noticed better fuel economy when in eco-mode, with good torque power.

Personally, I do not feel that eco-mode is intended for city driving. Rather, it is a tool to be used when driving on freeways and highways. That said, I notice that most posters here are complaining about eco-mode with the V-6 engines. I think it is a different story with the V-8s.

I know you're joking, but I actually meant to say "after a shutdown", which is when the thing resets normally.

Actually, most of my driving is in town and it does a fine job of rolling up through the gears properly. If I have one complaint, it's that it tries to be too powerful by downshifting too many gears when I do get on the gas. That makes it sound like a whiny little car when it suddenly wants 3rd gear at 40MPH to pass someone on an uphill. I really wish there was a way to add custom shift points.

However, I think the V6 gets a bad rap based on the early shifting issues that manifested themselves mostly when Eco mode was active. Those issues have mostly been ironed out with only minor roughness on some vehicles. Occasionally, people also still see the vehicle kind of puke when they need sudden acceleration - i.e, it just doesn't go, then suddenly downshifts about 3 gears and runs off like a windup toy.

It's gotten way better, though.

As someone who no longer feels the urge to race teenagers off the line, I'm happy with the power to fuel economy I get with the V6. I'm also not hauling boats, horses and camper trailers, either. If I were, the V8 or the Diesel would be a no-brainer for me.

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

With my 2016 vehicle, when eco-mode is either switched on or off, it remains that way regardless of how many times the engine has been started and stopped. In other words, I have to push the Eco button to On or Off... The vehicle does NOT default back to a given eco-mode setting regardless of how it was previously set before I stopped the engine.

In my opinion, eco-mode is really only appropriate when driving on relatively flat terrain freeways and highways. I would not get on the likes of the West Virginia Turnpike and drive with the vehicle in eco-mode, even with the V-8. Duh.

My issue with my '14 was when I hit many of the 25 mph zone we have around here. If it was more than 1/4 mile the tyranny would be in 4th or 5th gear. The Hemi would be turning so slow it would start lugging. I would need to downshift or turn off ECO.

In a modern vehicle I should be able to set it and forget it.

I'm very happy to leave it off.
