Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

So I have some interesting data that I have found regarding the different driving modes. I have a 2015 High Altitude V6 that I bought new. I have logged each and every fillup since new using the awesome "fuely" app. So it's real numbers not just based off the cars dash. I use my Jeep exactly the same every tank and usually fillup at the same stations. My driving consists of just far suburban commuting 13 miles each way to and from work. No highway, but also not harsh city. I have always driven with Eco mode ON I would say 99% of the time. Occasionally sport mode just for fun, but never left in that mode more than a minute or two. .
So I decided to run an entire tank with Eco mode OFF. Since I have a 2015 once it's off it stays off unlike the 2014 models so that was easy. Eco off is much more fun and the engine and tranny seem to do everything just right IMO. To my surprise I just achieved my best mpg to date. 21.1mpg this tank beating my previous best ever with Eco ON by .4 mpg. Most tanks it's closer to a full mpg better!! I am going to continue running with Eco off since it's much more pleasurable to drive, and since there is absolutely no loss in MPG, why would I not do that? Could it be a fluke thing? I don't know but I will continue to log the data to support this claim.

So long story short..want the same or better fuel economy and a better overall driving experience? Drive with Eco OFF!!!

Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

I'll be interested to see your results after 1000 more miles.

I have the same vehicle and I record every fill up in an excel spreadsheet.

I had eco on for the first 2300 miles and calculated 17.9 mpg.

With eco off for the last 7900 miles I calculate 17.3 mpg.

Evic says 19.0 and sometimes 20.0

I do like how it drives with eco off although I use sport mode briefly to accelerate onto the interstate sometimes.

This was reported by quite a few people with the '14s. If not there wouldn't have been so many complaints about it reverting to on with each restart.

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

I used ECO occasionally on my 14 and not at all on my 16. I think ECO helps more for in-city, frequent stop'n go driving more than it helps on the highway, or less stop'n go driving in general. At least that was my impression trying to gauge the effect it had on fuel economy.

I don't use it at all on my 16 HA and I get a better mpg average than I ever did on my 14, with or without ECO.

Wish I knew the difference in Eco mode staying off in 15's as well as auto entry/exit before I purchased as my 2014 doesn't have either feature.

I dont get near this good of mileage whether Eco or not which is frustrating as I have V6 and my commute is 8 miles almost all highway.

Yeah that's kinda what I thought as well. Maybe Eco helps more on city like driving so I agree with that.

Yeah sounds like you have an early 2014 which didn't get some changes which were late availability. It's a never ending process though as every year there will be changes. There are some changes to the 2016 that I wish my 2015 had

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

IMO, Eco mode doesn't appear to help. The amount of fuel you are shooting into the engine is a product of the load on the engine and how far the gas pedal is down. When Eco mode keeps you lugging around in 8th gear at 45 mph, you have to mash down the gas to get it to accelerate at all. Since it doesn't want to downshift, it just throws more gas into the engine, but still doesn't go anywhere. I feel like immediate upshifts to use gearing to accelerate instead of straight engine power saves much more fuel.

I loathe the fact that Eco mode is activated every time I start the car. The only time I've ever driven in Eco mode is when I forget to turn it off.

Isn't it just a software thing for these two features? Especially if later 2014's have these.

I've never seen a difference in gas mileage. Mine stays off!

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

I see a slight drop with Eco off only because it tends to hang in 6th longer verses going into 7th at around 40mph, even in light traffic with light acceleration.

Since, other than a little extra bump in the first shift from 1-2 after a cold start and a bit of late response in the shift from 2-1 during quick stop-and-go's at stop signs, I have no shifting issues resulting from eco being on. I can understand why some that were having rough shifts in eco mode might want to leave it off, but I'm not experiencing that.

Around here, traffic is always snarled, so getting on the gas is mostly a non-issue. If I do want a quick downshift to pass, I usually just flip the paddle shifter to go down a gear (or two if necessary) before pressing the gas and that gives me far better results that the transmission ever does automatically - even with eco off.

If find that no matter which mode I'm in, the Jeep seems to either want to jump down too many gears under hard acceleration or it fails to gear down soon enough resulting in lagging.

Sport mode seems to alleviate any of those issues, but it's generally too aggressive for most in town driving and only seems to waste fuel in my type of driving.

Re: Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

^^^ no shifting issues in Eco mode so that has nothing to do with it. It was just a real world test backed by data. As we discussed above I think the results might have to do with where the vehicle is driven. More city type driving might benefit Eco mode more, however in the suburbs where mine is driven, Eco on seems to have no benefit whatsoever in fuel economy. That along with the fact that Eco off generally gives a more fun driving experience and it's a win win situation for me.

Eco mode OFF from now on for me. Better fuel economy?!?

With my aftermarket wheels and tires I get 2-3mpg better with ECO off.

Also Jesus I should have gotten a sprint booster sooner it is the best mod out there for the v6 period. Probably the v8 and SRT too!
