Eco mode on/off

I wanted to check if I was getting better gas mileage with eco on, so I ran a tank of gas with it on city / hiway combined. Then ran a tank with it off. Same type of driving. The results were pretty much the same (about 19.3 mpg V-6)

I don't think the eco mode has any effect on the hiway either because the RPM's stay the same in either mode on/off. The only thing I notice is the acceleration is a bit better with it off.

Anyone else do this comparison?

I also don't see much if any difference with my usual driving (mostly highway). I believe I read somewhere that eco onn lowers the rpms at idle so since I don't do a lot of stop/go driving, that may be the reason I don't see much difference with it on/off.

Re: Eco mode on/off

For me it seems to make more of a difference in the 20-40 mph not city, but not highway driving. where eco will always drop down to 8th, and Eco off will tend to stay in 6 for quite a bit longer before going to 7 and 8.

Re: Eco mode on/off

I would think it would be almost impossible to conduct a valid comparison of eco and non eco. Even if you drive the same routes at the same speeds, its impossible to anticipate time spent idleing in traffic, rates of accelerations and other variables. Particularly when conducting a relatively short test. Any valid comparison would have to be conducted over a period of months and many many miles, first on eco, then on non eco. This way you could more accurately duplicate driving conditions. It's not surprising there is no noticeable difference on only one tank.

Re: Eco mode on/off

Based on my daily combined city/highway commute I see better fuel economy with eco on. Maybe 1-2 mpg.

What are you averaging MPG?

My running combined average is at 20.9 right now.

25 mile commute one way... about 8 miles of 60 mph highway, 7 miles of 75 mph freeway. The remaining 10 miles is a lot of stop'n go completely through town.

Sorry... had to edit the open road part of the commute.

Re: Eco mode on/off

For short run driving in the diesel I see a real difference between eco on and eco off. I live in a hilly area, so it holds higher revs a lot more for that kind of driving.

Yes, definitely a difference in the way it shifts. Not sure if you meant mpg mileage difference? Since I don't have any real noticeable gains I keep it off. I read on another thread in the forum that the 2015's can default to eco off. (Once you turn it off it won't come back on when you restart. You have to manually press it to turn back on) I am hoping that will be in one of the updates for the 14's

Re: Eco mode on/off

I made a round trip 190 miles each way. Same country and 4 lane roads with a couple of small towns. Eco and non Eco. Got 2 mpg better in non Eco leg on my diesel.

Re: Eco mode on/off

Took a trip yesterday 129 miles each way. Open flat two lane hi-way (same roads too and from) Steady speeds between 63 - 70 mph most of the way. These are my best results: Eco on 25.8 Eco off 26.3mpg
