Yeah, not an easy one to take...but yet again, we hear many stories about cars not ever being the same after such accidents...I would also be torn...good luck and plz keep us updated...

This is commonly said...and it's actually commonly false. A lot of people tend to have this frame of mind with any major repair (be it a mechanical repair or accident repair) and while it may be somewhat more true with body repair from accidents, it isn't universally true. The factory build process has quite a bit of tolerance built into it -- which is why they can produce 1000+ units a day. A competent set of technicians can actually take a vehicle apart and put it back together better than the factory did. Granted, a rushed or mediocre technician will get you a rushed or mediocre job, but this is not universally the case.

Oh, I'm sure that with great techs and all the time in the world, yeah, they can probably do a better job than the Factory...in rebuilding...but, in todays world, the way most business operates, this scenario is almost dreaming...

Time will tell if it is actually repairable. Happy that you weren't terribly hurt, but a few days may see some residual affects.

Jason911, sorry to read about your fender bender! The up-side is that you can now go out and buy the Hemi model that you really wanted!

I'm amazed and impressed that no one was hurt with that car going 45+ into the back of you without touching the breaks. Glad you are okay and hopefully you have a good outcome with the Jeep!

What do I want? I don't know-this vehicle is exactly how I wanted it. I just don't know....part of me says to total it, because I fear for all of the unknowns-the crumple zones, the hidden issues. But if the insurance company is willing to guarantee it for life, I'd be apt to let them fix it. More than likely once they open it up, the prices will compile a lot faster.

Who is the insurance company that will be paying? One thing that you may consider is diminished value. It's possible that it will have a decreased value from a sale/trade standpoint if it is fixed. Of course, if it is totaled and you have a loan, you may have to pay the difference between the payout and the payoff unless you have gap insurance.

Accidents really, really do suck. Good luck.

How does this comment help me or this thread in anyway? It is both childish and in very poor taste at this juncture. Can the board moderators please remove it from this thread.

Flo is their TV spokesperson so....

I have 3 years left of a 4 year note on the Jeep. I'd have to check my policy as far as GAP is concerned - I don't know off the top of my head. Diminished value is of concern - asked the other insurance on it and they basically said no. Why should I be penalized for someone else's mistake?

Good luck. You might want to ask your insurance rep to push this for you. Here's a link on how to possibly handle a diminished value claim:

Thats horse$hit. Your vehicle will have literally every panel repainted and almost every panel reshaped and reworked. Your GC would be worth $5k less at a wholesale auction. You need to fight tooth and nail for compensation for diminished value if they don't total it. You need to light a fire under your insurance company's a$$ to make it happen.

If you want, send me your VIN and I'll pull auction values for similar vehicles with moderate-extreme damages.

It is my understanding that the Active Head Restraints are not a 'throw-away' or 'single-use' part - see the "Resetting Active Head Restraints" section in the owner's manual. Dissimilar from seatbelt pretensioners and air bags which are single-use parts, the Active Head Restraints have a spring-loaded mechanism that can be reset without replacing any parts. I entirely understand that the replacement of parts after a collision is at the discretion of the insurance company, I just wanted to clarify this point. I'm glad that your Jeep kept you safe.
