They could have chosen to have it retain the setting from when the Jeep is shut off. They did get it right for '15.

That doesn't make sense to me. There should be no need for this button in the first place I'm thinking...
Make it work without that button and if as a manufacturer you're concerned with your fleet consumption levels then please deal with it differently.
As a consumer I'd like to press that Eco button by choice and enable it but not with gas that cheap, never
Seriously, I'd be OK with the regular setting and then go into Sports mode via shift or paddle-wheel action.

This isn't really a reasonable response. They NEED eco mode for getting the MPG up. To prevent consumers from getting upset, they have to provide a way to override that, hence the button. If you know of an effective, mind-reading switch that can take the place of the button then maybe you should contact jeep. Be thankful you have a button. In my 2012 laredo, I have nothing; I am in permanent eco-mode, and would give a few thousand to have your button working in my jeep. You guys don't know how good you have it.

Naaah, the default Eco is lame on the 2014. They might NEED that, I don't, I like to chose and the software needs to recall the setting after engine restart not default to Eco again. I'll ask the dealer to fix that if it can be fixed.

I've always laughed at these threads. On one had sure it should remember what it was set to last time. On the other hand to me the switch shouldn't even be there, there should be eco mode for normal driving and if you want a sporty feel out it in sport mode. I can count in one hand how many times that my wife's jeep has not been in eco mode. If you need to accelerate quicker use sport mode. I actually hate that it takes it out of eco mode in any of the select terrain settings, so much that I would rather drive down a snowy road in auto mode in eco mode vs snow mode and take a MPG hit. The only times I haven't driven in eco mode you don't even hit 8th gear until 60 or 65 mph which defeats the purpose of having an 8 speed transmission.

How do you turn it off as your preference? Mine is always on at start up.

You can't. Apparently on the 2015 model Jeep changed the software so you can determine the default and it's stored. 2014 defaults to ECO-Mode.
I'll ask the dealer but don't think they can change that on the 2014, there may be reasons for that...

Re: Economy Mode button, hate the default?!

I have a 2015 and initially, the preference didn't stick after restarting my car. I had a TSB done today that keeps my preference alongside some other stuff. no complaints here

Re: Economy Mode button, hate the default?!

Dealer talked to Jeep 'Engineering'. I guess that's the Jeep tech support for the dealer network?
There is no software update for the 2014 models that would retain the Eco button setting as on the 2015, they said there may be an update in the future...
