Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

We picked up our Jeep today.

Looks like the connector is ready under the dash. The pigtail wiring was in the glovebox. Hopefully you can read the instructions in the attached picture.

Geeez....it only took about 3 weeks to get a straight answer about this. Doesn't seem it should be that difficult. THANKS PLASTICAR!!!!

i Have no pigtail either. Built in August.

I am confused though, so does the connector go to the brake controller or the connection under the dash? It doesnt make sense that any wiring would be required. To me a class IV tow package means everything associated with towing a trailer requiring a heavy class iv trailer including being wired for brake controller. Seems to me it should only require a connector cable to go from under the dash to the controller and should not have to worry about wiring pigtails.

This pigtail is similar to that furnished by many automakers (light trucks and some SUV's). Typically you can plug it into the under-dash Jeep connector and then into YOUR brake controller (which is generally fastened near the steering column). Typically manufacturers have NOT furnished brake controllers for light trucks or cars....and the owner takes his controller with him when he trades / sells.

No i understand that part, I was not expecting them to furnish the brake controller I was under the assumption that all the connections were standard and that they pigtail would/should be included with the tow package

Well I think the pic above shows that the pigtail connects to the Jeep...BUT all the brake controller brands have their own proprietary means for connecting to their controllers......and so you need to wire the pigtails to your controllers harness. (OFTEN, If you buy a NEW controller WITH a pigtail at time of purchase it will have connectors at BOTH ends and thus would be plug and play....but life gets complicated in this area as Jeep don't know whose controller you have.)

phew!....I rest my case.
