Yes. You are correct. The Jeep-supplied pigtail plugs in under the dashboard and splices to your controller's pigtail. Eventually, the controller manufacturers should offer wiring that has a plug on one end that fits the Jeep and one on the other than fits their controllers.

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

For those that didn't get the pigtail with the vehicle, did you have to pay for it or did your dealer give it to you? Mine was built in July and didn't come with one either.

Also, I called my dealer to ask where the wiring connector was. It's grey and on top of the white box above the parking brake. However, it's not hanging down, but actually SECURED to the top of the white box behind all the wires. Now who had that bright idea? Fortunately, I don't have big hands so we'll see how it goes when I get the pigtail and controller.

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

The part # was revised with no appearant change to the pigtail nor the enclosed instructions, it is a tight fit ( i to also have rather large hands ) but managed to install and remove it for trail fit.....pat,,,,,,, they offered it to me @ no cost.

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

One of these days, I'm going to get around to doing the testing procedure that I described in post #45 above to sort out the wires, then splice the Jeep-supplied pigtail to my controller box's pigtail. After that, I'll leave it plugged in to the vehicle and tuck it up under the dash. I can connect and disconnect to the controller box as needed for use.

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

Looks like this might be the correct harness if you have a Tekonsha controller

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

I had to order the "Electric Brake Kit" as it was not in my glove box - as mention before the wiring information (colors to function) did not match the included instruction sheet.

I traced the wires out and found them to be:

Ground Circuit - Black Wire
Stop Lamp Signal Feed - White Wire with Purple Trace
+ 12Volt Battery Feed - Gray Wire with Red Trace
Electric Brake Feed - Dark Green Wire

The wires in the kit match the wires in the connector under the dash.

When I asked eTrailer about a wiring harness they told me that I had to "hard wire my controler as there was no harness for a 2011 Jeep".

Damn, good catch. Why they couldn't use a stock Dodge Ram part is beyond me unless they changed it on the Ram's too.

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

Just got off the phone with my dealer. They found the pigtail in another GC glovebox so he's shipping me one for free (with a bottle of touch up paint too)

Re: Electric Tow Brake Controller

I could not find the connector for the brake controller on my 2011 Jeep G.C., so I went to the dealer. I had to purchase the pigtail for $20. They said the socket was taped back up high to the left of the steering column. Couldn't find it. Drove to the dealer that installed the "tow package" when I bought the vehicle. He couldn't find it either.
Turns out that if the dealer installs the tow package, they don't get the wired in socket for the brake controller pigtail. You get the works that looks as if it is factory, but you have to hard wire the controller in. We found the BLUE brake wire coiled up and strapped to the relay box and the 12 volt power to the 7 pin up in the passenger side of the engine compartment. The tech warned me that the electronics on the 2011 are VERY easily damaged if you short out while looking for the wires to tap into. I could do it, but you know, I think it will be worth a few bucks to let them do it. I just want to tow with this big 5.7L Hemi! AT least I got my $20 back on that useless pigtail. Good luck if you are in a similar situation.
