you bought a Dodge product for reliability??? Have you not read any car forum or magazine over the past 10 years or so?

j/k - I like my new Jeep but hate that it is a Dodge. I am hoping I got a good one and don't have any issues. I haven't yet but I am patiently waiting for my new ride to crumble before my eyes.

Then why did you buy it?

and Jeeps are not Dodges.

Re: Embarrassing Moment

When I was checking out new cars, I found a Jeep dealer with a large inventory in a cavernous building. (It rains a lot here, so you get more sales if your customers can stay dry while shopping. And you don't have to keep the cars locked.) I managed to sneak in so I could take my time without being pestered by sales staff.

Ooh look, there's the new Grand Cherokee. Slide into the front seat: yeah, this is nice. Get out, slide into the back seat. Hey, plenty of leg room. Get out -- no, I'm not getting out. The back door is locked. I can't unlock it -- the CHILD LOCK is set!

I thought about using my cell phone to call the reception desk and ask them to send somebody into the warehouse to free me from my prison. Then I worked my way over the front seats, being oh so careful not to step on the leather, and made my escape.

Fast forward two weeks. I have my new Overland in the driveway and I'm checking it out. Slide into the front seat: this is nice, and it's MINE. Slide into the back seat: it's as nice as I remember. Get out -- oh %$#@, NOT AGAIN?

This time I called my wife and asked her to come let me out. Then I took a close look at the child lock controls. They were in an in-between position where the arrow pointed to "unlock" but they were still engaged. Some assertive adjustment with a screwdriver fixed that.

Re: Embarrassing Moment

Not only the key fobs can get you in trouble...

We were excited that on Friday afternoon our dealer called and said that my wife's brand spankin' new Overland was finally there after an almost two month wait. So on a beautiful Saturday morning we went out to our parking lot to check out all the toys in the truck (our 2003 Explorer, while nice, did not have as many bells and whistles.)

After exhausting the features in the front of the truck, my wife and I decided to climb into the back seat to see how the view was through the CommandView sunroof. So there we were, beautiful Saturday afternoon, with the "aren't we so cool" attitude in the back seat of our new sweet ride. The back seat of our sweet new ride that was soon to feel like the back seat of a police cruiser. Apparently, Andrew's problem with the child locks wasn't unique.

So, after a few minutes of what the heck do we do, I faced the option of either crawling out the back of the truck or crawling into the front seat. Well, not being as limber as I used to be, neither option really was going to be fun. However, then as a ray of sunlight came through the sunroof, it hit me... the start button! So I was able to reach far enough to hit the button and switch it into accessory, enabling the power windows so my wife and I were able open them and reach the outside door handles to open the doors (and promptly disengage the child locks!)

Luckily none of our neighbors were around to witness our discomfort. We join Andrew in his love of the child safety locks! Never underestimate the power of technology to create both a problem and its solution.

you can block me if you want.

sorry if you or the other stuck up members of the board can't take a joke.

But it's cool. I will go somewhere else where the mods are not new tires and removing the jeep badges. Then again, maybe I will stay here just to piss you off.

I usually put a smiley face when I am messing around. But no, I do not get upset about a message board on the interweb. I am just here to have fun and talk about cars (not rigs or trucks).
