Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Only bought new vehicles sight unseen until I showed up to pick them up. So I guess I could have still backed out.

As for selling, every vehicle I have sold has sold to the first person to come look at it except one time (the buyers were flaky). Otherwise, with a detailed listing with tons of photos on autotrader, sells fast. I keep all the records and low miles too.

So to answer your question --- yes and no. I but sight unseen but see it when go to pick it up (ordered and off the lot) new only. Selling...not sight unseen like other posts but pretty darn close.

Last five vehicles were factory ordered. Never saw any of them until delivery day. That's what new car warranties are for.

I did - and not only once. My current Summit was also leased without seeing it 'in person' first. Although it was from a dealer not too far away, I agreed on taking it before it was brought to my local dealer.

Especially on new vehicles with a factory warranty, I don't see a problem.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Flew to Denver in 4/15 to pick up my Overland after negotiating online. I did test drive it at the dealer when I got there before I signed so I guess not completely sight unseen? Denver dealer was 6500 under MSRP and 3000 under local so I jumped at it.

Anyway, 5500 miles on it now (summer vacation) and this thing is rock solid. No regrets at all.

I haven't, but people do it regularly. Ever hear of EBay or Tesla?

That's right. Tesla does home (neighborhood) deliveries and the buyer more or less witnesses as the vehicle comes off the trailer and its unwrapping.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

I have bought several without seeing them. Occasionally there are little surprises but never anything major. Like a scratched rim of a new car has more 300 miles on it when your expecting 30.

Im looking at a New 2014 leftover in North Carolina (I live in TX). There are photos posted online that are of really great quality.

I was just curious if any of you have ever done this. If so, how did it go/ what tips and tricks can you recommend?
Yes! as I said in an earlier post, I purchased my 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT form a dealer in Ohio, (I'm in NY) sight unseen. saw it on the internet, called and gave them my credit card for a deposit and got a ride there and drove it home. It was purchased new, but I don't think I would have done that if it were used.

I order cars also and with that you dont see them until pickup but you can always refuse delivery if when you get there it has an issue. Small things i would let them correct but things like paint damage and them wanting to repaint body pannels id refuse delivery, order me another one.
Thing id worry about with this case is he is having it shipped hundereds of miles which complicates any refusal of delivery and they probably require an actual purchase before shipping. Normally yes maybe take a chance as it is new. But in this case the issue some people have with the v6 shifting especially with the 2014 v6 would weigh on my mind. Yes of course the dealer would have to fix issues but how many people on here are still complaining about v6 shifting issues 1-2 years later that they have not been able to be resolve completely. That is what would concern me is getting one of those especially with a left over 14. Maybe youll get it and it will be one with no shift issues but maybe not, thats one thing i would make sure is checked one way or another before commiting to it.

Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

My cousin bought a Hellcat Challenger off eBay from a dealer in Texas. He only saw it for the first time when it was offloaded here on Long Island. I think he's nuts for not going there to check it out first, but I guess when you can pay all cash for a car, you wouldn't be to worried about returning it.

Me personally, I would want to see the car prior to paying for it. Once I did see it and approve I would just leave it up to the transporter to get it back to me in the exact condition I last saw it in.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Have special ordered several cars and once bought a Corvair that was in Maryland based on extensive converstion and photos.

Have also driven over a hundred mles with a tow dolly and came back still empty

I generally know A Lot about any car before I decide to buy one and then know what color and options I am looking for. Did buy my Jeep off the lot with 15 miles on the odo & after a test drive because it was exactly what I wanted.

Best tow car I've ever owned.
