Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Technically, I bought my Jeep sight unseen.

I test drove a different one at the dealer, then they located the one I actually wanted. The same thing happened with my pickup truck. In fact, the pickup was even more sight unseen considering all the special ordering on it. There literally was no other one to be seen anywhere close.

I would have no issues buying a new vehicle sight unseen as long as I've had a chance to check out the closest thing to what I'm buying first. At that point, aside from some monumental screw-up, the vehicle should be identical, or nearly so.

Used cars are a different story. I would only buy directly off the lot one I've actually driven and checked over.

Yes...two ordered vehicles.

A 2012 Subaru STI, and my pending 2015 Mercedes Benz C300 Sport 4Matic I pickup this coming week.

Never even drove the actual vehicles until they were delivered to the dealership...took (will take) for test drive before signing papers.

Yep!

This makes no sense. I haven't heard of one person that has bought a new (0-100miles) jeep and had shifting issues right off the bat. Plus it's NEW with warrantee. Any problems bring it to your local dealer for repairs. In not sure the dealer will say everything is ok if it's not. Remember it's not used!! Many people I know have purchased a new car out of state without looking at it.
A guy from Texas bought my 74 2002tii sight unseen. Overnights a check, and sent a car transport up to pick it up.

That isnt true some 2014-2015 v6 have shift issues from the start some develop it over time and some work just fine. I test drove a brand new v6 one that shifted like total shit. Of course it has warranty that should fix any issues the point i was trying to make with that v6 trans is how many people out there are still struggling with trans shift issues 1-2 years later. That warranty doesnt do much good when they dont know how to fix it. Sure people buy and sell cars site unseen all the time just not something id do in this situation given the history of that v6 trans especially on a left over 2014. Up to him whatever he decides to do just something to consider in this particular situation.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Now that I think about it... We traveled to Huntington Beach Jeep for our 2012. It was new. Salesman wasn't even out there, was really weird but I actually liked that whole experience lol we switched over our stuff and drove off... When I went to drive off, I put it in gear and it had a horrible lurch problem. It would jump! It eventually got better over time but was still an issue and sometimes worse than others. They had a whole bunch that were the same that I wish I would have tested before driving off.

I bought my last 5 cars without ever seeing them in person, without driving them around the block. All came from auctions from other states so its like Christmas, you never know what you actually end up with. Every time I havent had an issue.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

I'm still waiting for the Land Rover Discovery Sport to be available for a test drive. I saw it at the Montreal Auto Show. Sales people wanted to get us to hand over a deposit and everything despite the car not being available till April. Guess what, it's June and they still aren't delivered yet. To me, the driving experience is important, as is comfort. I don't mind sitting in a different trim level of a particular make/model. However, when it is a brand new model, there's nothing you can compare it to. So I will wait until they have them in the showroom before making my decision.
As for my Focus, I ordered that one exactly the way I wanted it, despite the dealer having 30 other Focii, on the lot.

Test drove a '14 limited Ecodiesel and ordered a '15 Summit Ecodiesel 6 months later while deployed. Already making payments and will pick it up in 2 weeks.

Crazy, a little. But, it's a new Jeep and they will fix the flaws if any. I got all the options I wanted.

Thanks! Just called the dealer and even though I specifically ordered from the factory without a front plate bracket they installed a bracket as soon as it arrived. Bastards, what's worse is since I ordered via Overseas Military Sales Corporation the actual dealership does not care one bit as they aren't making a dime on this sale.

I almost feel like making them fix the bumper holes but I think I'd rather just have factory OEM paint (even with a front plate) than paint after the fact.

You can always refuse delivery if you havent signed for it yet. Especially if you have in writing that you dont want the front license plate and they do it anyways.

Filling the holes doesnt look factory. It looks exactly as it sounds. They would have to put on a whole front new bumper to make it really look the way it should. If they give you an issue, contact Jeep corporate. Im sure they will go out of their way to make it right for a returning soldier.
