Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Has anyone ever purchased a car without seeing it in person?

Im looking at a New 2014 leftover in North Carolina (I live in TX). There are photos posted online that are of really great quality.

I was just curious if any of you have ever done this. If so, how did it go/ what tips and tricks can you recommend?

Never did, never would. Why would anyone do this? It's just common sense, not to.

I wouldnt do it without seeing and more importantly driving it first. Is this a v6 or v8? If v6 definitely not considering the shifting issues a lot of people on here have repoted with the 2014 v6. if v8 id feel a little more comfortable but still id want to drive it. Remember the dealer will say everything is fine reguardless how it runs or drives.

Its kinda like a blind date...find out what she's wearing to the rendezvous...get there early...do some recon sneak and peak...if it isn't as advertised you hightail it to the extraction point...you don't have to seal the deal...tactical retreat is sometimes the best option....

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

Why can't you strike an impromptu friendship with someone from North Carolina who is here on the forum and have them check the car, take pictures, drive it etc? That would be the best alternative. Really what you are checking is paint and leather imperfections, that all the options are there and things like the VIN and that the car isn't harboring some mechanical problems. But it is a new car and Jeep will have to fix it anyways...

Yes. I ordered my 2014 Summit EcoDiesel without ever having seen a 2014 *or* a Summit *or* an EcoDiesel, much less having driven any one of those.

I had rented a 2013 WK2 V6 gasser Limited and liked that, though, which made the decision easier.

I am very happy with my Summit EcoDiesel and would buy it again without hesitation, especially now that I have driven one (haha).

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

I bought my last car sight unseen and had it delivered via enclosed trailer.
It was a great car but did have issues the dealership didn't disclose like curbed wheels and a scuff under the front bumper (possibly from delivery). No mechanical issues through ownership but u wouldn't do it again.

Now that is an excellent idea. You wouldnt happen to live in NC would you? If not, is there an easy way to search where members are from (if they have that information available)?

Sorry bro, I am from Illinois.
But if it makes you feel better, bought my Subaru without driving one. And frankly, without seeing one in person, the dealership did not have a the turbo variant in the showroom. I ordered mine. Never regretted.

Thats actually really reassuring to know. Ive driven the overland before so I know how it feels to drive one. The vehicle has 63 miles on it and the photos are high resolution that they provided me. Im not overly concerned about it but would much rather see it in person.

This whole being an adult and spending money thing can get really exhausting.

Re: Ever buy a car without seeing it in person?

I have done it multiple times before and would do it again no problem. I have purchased my corvette Z06 out of state as well as my Acura TL Type S to name a couple.
Some of the guys above didn't understand why someone would do this, but there are several reasons. One being to find the exact vehicle you want. Not necessarily with the WK2, but if it's a more rare or hard to find vehicle sometimes you don't have a choice but to buy out of state. Second, to find the absolute best deal. Even though it was new, I purchased my wife's new '14 Toyota Highlander 4 hours away up in central WI. That dealer was offering huge discounts compared to dealers in Chicago area.
I just sold my 07 TLS 6mt with 16,000 miles for $24,000 to a gentleman near Baltimore. Never even met the guy, just talked on the phone and through texts and emails we worked the deal. He overnighted the entire payment and had the vehicle shipped back. He was absolutely thrilled with the car. Considering there was no other vehicle like it in the country with the miles and color he knew what he had to do.
Oh and very high quality pictures of almost every part of the vehicle are required. If the out of state seller follows through with all that I'm willing to work.
