I felt that way too until a gentleman I go flying with let me drive his 2004 Ram 4x4 Crew Cab (yes, with a Hemi) last fall. It had 210,000 miles on it and from his matter-of-fact manner he stated he only had one issue after 100,000 miles: a broken steering rack from an accident. Everything interior-wise worked, the engine ran beastly-strong and it went straight down the rough roads we were on. Chrysler has bet the farm on the success of the new Grand Cherokee being a Jeep flagship vehicle and from what I hear out of contacts in Auburn Hills, Warren and Dearborn, it appears to be a good bet.

Re: Explorer vs Jeep

i own a dodge 2500 with 148k miles and no issues other than wear and tear. i had no problem buying the gc, i did add the extra warranty. i drove it this morning 160 miles one way and set the cruise at 90. a bmw passed me so i caught him and had enough grunt to hold 115 mph, until GA troopers slowed us down. they got the guy behind me. the v6 is strong. normally i would not do this but i thought it would help with break in.

Re: Explorer vs Jeep

Never had any major or many minor problems with my Chrysler products. I have had more issues with LR, BMW, and audi's.
