Double standard much? You have said multiple time how little we can do because china and india will just keep poluting more and more and us cutting back will do nothing.
Apparently not everyone is as tough as you are.

Kids in car seats shouldn't wear heavy coats. So yes, I do remote start mine when it's 20 or colder.

I also let it get a little heat when it's snow/ice covered.

Re: Extend remote start time on OEM 14 W2

Wow, some people want remote start to go longer than 15 minutes? Geezus, I just got in my car and drove off when we had -45 wind chills. It didn't even seem that bad. Plus, idling for such a long time cant be good for your motor. I know most people remote start to get the cabin warm, but there are people that think you need to warm the actual engine up. This is not true. Modern engines are designed to be started and driven normally until up to operating temp. Plus, idling does not warm up other components such as the transmission. Ahh whatever, people can do whatever they want with their cars, but idling that long is just silly.

It will warm up the trans just not very fast. The pump is still spinning and with the new 8 speeds they have a built in heater. I will remote start my vehicles in the winter, getting in a 200 degree vehicle in the summer though doesn't bother me.

Re: Extend remote start time on OEM 14 W2

Wow, this went bad fast. Anyway sticking with the question I guess there is no way to extend the run time.

Re: Extend remote start time on OEM 14 W2

A lot of cities in Minnesota have time limits of 15 minutes of warm up time, or you can get a ticket. At -25 below (the coldest I have started this winter) the remote start did not work. It only turns once, then disables. I manually started just fine. When I got in 15 minutes later, the Jeep was plenty warm. I do not understand why someone would need more than 15 minutes of warm up time.

Like somebody mentioned sometime above the only reason I find myself warming up my car for longer than 15 minutes if it is like 0F outside and I need to take somewhere my infant son. The car probably can take the cold w/o issue, not sure about my son.

Are you serious? I 2x remote start mine all the time and there is no "Pollution" All I see is a small pile of skittles on the ground and little rainbows floating away. Sheesh.

Re: Extend remote start time on OEM 14 W2

Wow . . . lots of hostility over a relatively innocuous question. Anyway, here's my two cents worth: I don't believe it's possible to override the 15-minute setting or the double-start maximum. It's largely a question of safety, as there have been a handful of accidental CO deaths when remote starts that didn't time out were inadvertently activated with the car/truck in an attached garage.

Having said that, any small amount of added heating would be pretty insignificant. I've found that the interior of my '12 Overland doesn't heat all that much whether it's been going 5 or 10 or 15 minutes. I suspect that this is largely a consequence of the fact that the engine continues to run at a pretty cool temperature until it's been placed under load (driven).

So, bottom line: the answer is no, you can't extend it beyond 15 minutes. But, you don't gain much with longer run periods anyway.
