Hey all,
I'm new to posting on this forum, but often come to read about Jeeps. I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited (3.6 4x4) which I love, and have driven quite a bit over the almost 2 years I have owned it. I'm up in Canada and am about to hit the 60,000km bumper to bumper warranty. The dealer has quoted me $1850, which was more than I was expecting, to bring my bumper to bumper warranty up to the 5yr/100k of the powertrain. I haven't had any issues with this Jeep so far, but had an 07 Limited in the family which was nothing but problems. The almost $2k seems really steep to me, and I am wondering how much (knock on wood) can really go wrong. I know there are some expensive components like the head unit, and A/C, but I don't really expect those to break before I hit 100,000km. The other avenue I explored was extending everything as far as possible, which is only 7 yr/160,000km, and that was just south of $5000, which frankly seems a tad crazy to me. I know the higher end a vehicle, the more expensive the warranty, and if this was german I wouldn't hesitate. But at the end of the day I feel like it is an American car, for which parts should be pretty easy to come by, and easy to work on.
I have 500km to decide on whether or not to go for the extended warranty, and am nervous about driving an out of warranty vehicle. Any one have any tips/ feeling on my situation? I know it is a gamble either way, but wouldn't mind input from others about it.
Thanks in advanced ladies and gents.
PS. Sorry if I have posted this improperly, I'm not well-versed in forums.
