Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

I like less chrome, that's why I got the Altitude. I'd love to see the Altitude continue with the 2014's but it doesn't look like it'll continue, I guess?

=wanted_warrior;746278]Ive always wondered what attracts people to vehicles that have alot of chrome on the exterior. Personally, I am not a fan of too much chrome. I have a wrangler and all the accents that it has are black. But that is just my personal preference.

Yes, in my circle we call it "racoon-syndrome"

Don't like too much, but a little is nostalgic, reminds me of the old Jeep Grand Wagoneers.

Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

In my generation, women liked diamonds and men liked chrome. We used to have the entire front end chromed on the older cars. Today everything is painted. I prefer chrome in my grill and bumper (if you want to call what we get today as a bumper). Its purely a personal preference.

Special Editions come and go...that's what makes them "special". It's likely that once Jeep gets inventory really moving, they will give more thought to what they want to offer for Special Editions of the MY14. It's already been hinted that there are some things being considered.

The pricing and excessive chrome is a turn off to me and with BMW offering incentives on diesel along with the standard free maintenance, the Summit becomes a hard sell.
The reality is a similarly optioned X5 wouldn't be priced anywhere near that of a Summit, likely $20k more. I priced out an X3 to $58k and it still fell short on some bells and whistles. As a BMW owner and enthusiast, even I know the options are grossly overpriced relative to the competition. The free maintenance is only worth it if you we're going to have the dealer do it for you anyway, and only if you're lucky enough to need breaks.

Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

Agree with the "over-chrome-ing"..that and the absence off the Off Road pkg. in the 2014's made me switch to the Overland.

Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

Silly question if you ask me. It's a personal, visual preference. Not sure how anyone would explain it any other way.

Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

I think it depends on the color. I prefer a little contrast.

Re: Facination with chrome on the WK2

From what I see while just driving, age plays a big difference, but so does sex. I have yet to see a lady driving an altitude, but always see them driving chromed out jeeps. But when I do see an altitude, it's always a dude under (what I would guess) 45ish. What's funny is, when I see an altitude driver, the dudes always have chrome glasses.

As for me in general, @31, I love the altitude look, but I already had a black truck (will never own another, even though imo it is the best look) and I didn't want white, so I got mineral grey, I just don't like the altitude look on mineral grey. If I wanted a black or white SUV, an altitude would be it. Well, if they would put real racks on it.

Age is what I have concluded to be the biggest factor. When i was removing all the chrome accents from my wrangler, my dad kept asking me why I was doing it and that i should be adding more to make it look better. But it also depends on the color. I have seen a few altitudes and the blacked out look does not quite match with some of the colors, well most of the colors. But its all about personal preference and if you like it one one way or the other then by all mean go for it.

Agreed. I am 25, and driving a White Altitude. I am doing some things and going for the Stormtrooper look. But my dad, who is 60 drives a 2012 cream Silverardo with chrome. I like the look, but just not me.
