Factory Orders - Timing Question

I know the common wisdom for buying a vehicle in inventory is to shop at the end of the month for better leverage. Does this apply to factory orders? Does the salesman/dealer count the sale at the time of the order, or upon delivery?

Also, I understand that dealerships may have monthly allocations for specific models. So is it better to negotiate a factory order EARLY in the month, before allocations get used up?

Re: Factory Orders - Timing Question

I factory ordered my '15 Overland, took about 6-8 weeks from order date to receive it. From my understanding the sale doesn't count until all the paperwork is signed and you drive away, this also means that deals and incentives may change while you're waiting.

As for allocations the dealer will add your car to their next order, I've never heard of allocations being full unless you're at the end of the model year or its some rare/limited edition model. A good dealer will find a way to fit in a customer order when you're putting down a deposit.

Re: Factory Orders - Timing Question

Well yes, but allocations are based on past sales volume, so they can be filled before the end of the month.
