Re: factory paint defect?

I know I got a 2015 GC that look like it was painted with a roller, you can feel the ripples in the paint and for &40,000.00 I just cant take that and then we find out that Jeep shut down the paint line last year to update the paint system, So if you paid top dollar for one of these vehicle and got the crappy paint job, TAKE IT BACK !!!! Can you see the ripples and orange peel in this paint ???

So the new paint system is spitting out these bad paint jobs or are these ones built prior to the new paint system?

Not sure about the new plant being the culprit but I've got at least 5 spots on my brand new Pearl Black Altitude that look like something, maybe dust, got under the paint and it got clear coated over. Body shop said they might be able to wet sand and polish out a couple. I've seen this on other brands but it's pretty bad. I walked the lot while I was having the NAV activated and I found almost all the cars had them, some way worse. Easier to see on a dark color. I wouldn't go so far as repainting panels to fix it as it usually won't match factory paint. (or lack of it ) I'm glad I'm leasing but if you bought one I'd be interested to hear what Jeep is willing to do for you....

Jeep and the Dealer are playing the "Blame Game "at this point, I have had to get a lawyer when we found out that this thing had been painted twice and we found water damage under the seats and in the seat motors all within 400 miles after purchases. I returned it to the dealer.

Wow that sucks. There are lemons in every brand. My friend returned an E class Mercedes because they couldn't fix the AC properly. Took almost a year but they gave him every dime back. My paint blemishes are not something I would return mine for and the fix may be worse then the problem. Sucks though that a simple thing like a decent paint job seems to much to ask...

So what did you end up doing once they bought back your car?

Painted twice before you purchased it as new? Was that factory painted twice or is this after factory you are talking? If it was after factory they should have disclosed that.

Mine has got the orange peel thing also but so did the other 70 on the lot at the time I looked at so I figured that was how they all were. Not saying its right but I guess that's how they were coming off the line at the time. mine is a two year old 2014 model so different time period definitely was on the older paint system.

agree with the fix often being worse than the problem. I would not mess with repainting the factory paint unless you really have to. of course often you do have to in accidents and things but for very minor blemishes I would not let them be repainting entire panels. check out some of the threads on here about the difficulty people have had with them trying to get the crystal flake stuff matched correctly and that's on brand new jeeps.

I agree 100%. Despite the paint matching and mixing technology body shops have available to them, it can still be difficult to reproduce that factory shade and get it to blend in properly.

Re: factory paint defect?

Paint defects are more apparent now that all manufacturers have moved to water based paints.

Re: factory paint defect?

I never noticed any issue with my Red Limited and just washed my Black Overland today and the Black metallic with sun shinning on it looks pretty darn good to my eyes. Maybe a little orange peel effect but nothing to squirm over.

Makes you wonder how some of this gets by quality control (or lack there of it)?!?!?
