Factory security alarm system

Hello all. New 2015 JGC Overland 4x4 owner here. I've searched and searched and have come up empty handed. According to Jeep, my Overland comes standard with a security alarm system. The dealership said it costs $500 to activate. After going through all of my paperwork when I got home, I noticed that the activated system is a Karr branded alarm system. Did I get taken? I have a feeling that I did. Does anyone know the difference between the Karr system and the included standard system? Thanks in advance.

Something isn't right there.

I can assure you my factory system is active on my 2015 Limited since I accidentally set it off when testing the manual door key.

I saw no charges for that on my invoice.

There shouldn't be anything to activate, anyway. It's just a voltage detector and a starter kill hooked to the car horn and the locks. I'm not even sure it has a vibration or glass break sensor in it. The factory system is about as basic as you can get.

The only thing to "activate" would be the vehicle location and auto shutdown features through U-Connect, which would be active with everything else and included in that package price. Those features would deactivate should you opt not to pay for the service after the trial.

Karr is a third party system your dealer installed (Karr Alarm Systems | Secure Your Car with Karr). If he did it without your knowledge, or it wasn't disclosed during the sales negotiations, I'd definitely say you've been taken.

I was told that it was a $500 activation fee for the security system. Not until I got home and was looking through paperwork, I realized that it was a third party system. I just can't find any info on what the factory system consists of vs. the Karr system. Either way I think I'm going to ask for my money back.

If the inclusion of third party products, such as that security system, wasn't disclosed to you prior to the sale, I most certainly would take issue. Here in PA, there is usually a second "sticker" on the window that details dealer-installed "goodies" (said sarcastically...) with their costs added to the sticker price for a grand total before negotiation. But you need to carefully check your purchase paperwork first...
