Factory tow pkg

Looking at used wk2s i see a bunch without the factory tow pkg that have the e other things i want. I know there is a load levelling rea suspension, but what else is included in factory tow besides that and the hitch? Am i giving up anything major to get installed later? I know my 2000 wj wit b tow had additional transmission oil coolers and such. Havent been able to find a definitive answer. Years as re 2012 through 2014.

Re: Factory tow pkg

The following items can be added "aftermarket" if you wish.
-7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness
-Class IV Receiver Hitch

The WK2s have the wiring harness installed for most (if not all) trim levels, just have to get it activated at the dealership once you throw on the 7/4 pin plug.

The full size spare (vs half-sized) comes with the tow package too (as well as other packages), but has nothing to really do with towing. The rear load leveling suspension you already know about.

The part that cannot be done aftermarket without a great deal of expense is the "heavy duty engine cooling", as you already suspected. I believe there is an additional oil cooler, and a more powerful, more variable engine fan.

Re: Factory tow pkg

And your dealer will lie to you about it. Two near me did. "Oh, yes yes, we can add everything from the factory tow package. No problem"
Just don't get fleeced.

Re: Factory tow pkg

'Evil is correct. Beware. While stuff can be added, without factory installed tow package, you do not get the same capacities. Something like that could affect you negatively in multiple ways should something "bad" happen while towing beyond what Jeep publishes as official capacities without factory tow.

Re: Factory tow pkg

Thanks. I have had some salespeople tell me that you can just add it no problem. Told them they were full of it. But wanted to make sure.
