Fair pricing or outragous?

I'm torn between purchasing a 2012 Laredo or pretty decked out 2011. I sent some emails to dealers on the 2011's that I found to see if they would "bite" on my offer.

2011 JGC v6 laredo 4x4 - MSRP $39,560 and I'm asking them to take $29,500 with TTL included. I want them to take about 75% of the depreciation of the vehicle, if possible. 1 deal has it on sale for $34,990 but I think they could do better.

The 2012 I would be looking at would just be the v6 laredo 4x4 with towing and something else, MSRP is like $32,410.

So whats your thoughts, am I nuts?

You're trying to get them to sell you a $39,5k suv for like $26,5k-$27k? Is this a new car? Seems like you're a bit off....

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

Yes this would be on a new vehicle. They do have it down to 34,990 right now. I was just taking about 75% off of the full price for depreciation (maybe $4-5k). When I use truecar, they show the great price around $33,610 for the price. I guess if I can get it around $30k that would be good as well.

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

No way... How much do think a dealer makes on one of these? They are not going to sell it at a big loss. Your offer has to be within reason not something like this. This is a good selling vehicle they'll sell it.

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

And this is why I asked. I haven't seen many of the new JGC's around the area. I'm not trying to rip off the dealership. Just trying to get the best possible deal I can. If truecar has a great price around 33.6, what you think would be the lowest I could try without lowballing?

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

You should be able to get 7-8K off a new 2011 being it is still on the lot.

Looks like tomorrow is the best time to buy a 2011 too!

I think a good rule of thumb is start at 15% below sticker and you need to make it a cash deal. No trade! You lose on a trade, period. Have the down payment and use the dealer financing if you have to, but remember cash is king!! I got about 11% on my '12 Overland.

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

If you find the right dealer, you might get close to your desired number. They obviously won't be making any money of the sale price of the Jeep, but there might be a dealer who is a sale or two away from a volume incentive from Chrsler. So, sure, they might lose $$ of the sale of the Jeep, but they will more than make it up with the incentive if they get it. No way of knowing which dealer to go to, that is the hard part.

No offense, but HUH? No dealers care about a cash deal anymore. They actually make even more money on the deal if you use their approved financing. Transactions are instant now days and whether it is a check, cash, or credit card they get paid in full.

Re: Fair pricing or outragous?

I emailed quite a few dealers in the area that have the similar 2011 for sale. Jeep2011 is right, dealers make more money if you finance than if you straight up cash. I'll see what the deals say in the morning when they open at 7.

As for 15% below MSRP, the deal is about 13% below sticker. When 1/1/2012 hits, the vehicle will hit the 1yr depreciation and I'm the one taking the big hit. If the dealer wants to get it moved he might be willing to take some of that.

Cash buyers are the least profitable buyers for a dealer. Poor credit customers are the most profitable for a dealer.

As for the OP's question - yes, you are nuts to expect a dealer to meet that price.
